1) Go to steam library.
2) Right click on IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946
3) Click on properties
... a window will open ...
4) Click on "Local Files"
5) Click on "Browse..."

Your game folder will be opened in the Windows file explorer.

You mentioned a resolution method, and that you were prevented from trying it because you couldn't figure out how to access the game folder. I'd assumed that I'd tell you how to find the game folder, you'd try that method, and then report back.

But, in any case, I can't tell you how to fix the game, because I don't know yet—so far, the only thing I know about your problem is that the game freezes then crashes. We are not at the stage of fixing the problem; we are at the stage of figuring out what the problem is so we can figure out how to fix it. To do this, we need a logfile. Is there a file called "log" or "log.lst" (not "initlog", that's a completely different file) in your game folder? If there is, post that in [code] markup. If there isn't, do the following:

- Open the file in your game folder called "conf" or "conf.ini"
- Find the entry "LOG=..." in the "[console]" section of the file.
- Make sure that entry reads "LOG=1"
- Start the game again.

From the way the game crashes, this may not work, in which case whatever you do to fix the game will be little more than waving your arms around in complete darkness; it might work, it might make it worse. But if it does, and a logfile is generated with a Java exception stack trace, then we'll be well on our way to solving your problem.

In addition to FL2070 suggestion: before attempting to launch BAT it will be useful to verify if at least the stock game works. So launch  the Il-2 selector.exe and click on change settings and choose the Stock game option, then start IL-2 If the game launch then you can assume that the problem is in the BAT install.

To start with, I'd recommend to try and get the basic steam game version going again.

So edit:
LOG=1
Save, then run il2fb.exe.
Game crashes.
Look into root folder and find a file "log.lst".
Open it and paste content here.
It's not very hard.:)
