Dear community and developpers,

amd driver 23.4.1 make a permanent boot loop. I had to restart in safe mode and launch DDU to uninstall everything about AMD driver then I reinstalled my stable old 22.5.1 drivers which work with every games I have and especially IL2 1946 (with BAT mod) which do not work with newer drivers. OPENGL perfect landscape cannot be activated (previous post link below)

https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/amd-drivers-22-11-2-issue-opengl-perfect-landscape-not...

 my config GPU 6900XT, ryzen 9 5900X  32 GB RAM  SSD 2TO

Hope one day you will solve that because it seems openGL management with new drivers is totally broken with this old but excellent flight simulator.

Best regards

Roll back to 21.12.1:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,69395.0.html

AMD changed their OpenGL implementation and f*cked it up big times.
Not our fault and nothing we can help AMD with.

thanks for your reply. ATI last drivers are catastrophic!!! I posted on AMD website that I had a permanent boot loop and I am not the only person apparently....

I complained to them as IL2 1946 is unplayable but i think they don't care of these old OpenGL simulators..... ::(

I suppose this is what happens if you dont roll back the drivers (I dont know how to do that btw)

it's a shame this hasn't been fixed by AMD already

I suppose that AMD is not really interested to use resources to adapt drivers for a 20+ year old SIM with a few thousands devoted followers around the world

Interestingly, OpenGL games are an old breed altogether, hence no one expected AMD to suddenly come out of the woodwork with a driver that's supposed to give a +72% FPS boost for "ancient" games.
Yet they did.
And apparently, in 99% of cases they succeeded.

Unfortunately, with their "performance boost" they've introduced a couple of bugs, too.
Most notably "exclusive fullscreen" games sometimes lock up or crash (IL-2 1946 typically is running in this mode).
The issues in combination with IL-2 1946 however are the worst as it seems.
Since we - as modders - don't have access to the internal graphics engine of IL-2, the only chance to tackle this from "our" side was to use a full replacement of that engine, i.e. give IL-2 Graphics Extender (IL2 GE) a try.

Does using Graphics Extender fix the issue?

No... that's why I'm asking
Instead of asking, why not just try it yourself?
It's faster, it's 100% reliably applicable to your situation and you could provide some valuable feedback to the community.

I see, should I install GE first and then BAT? or the other way around?
