Looking for the FW190A-8 of Heinz Baer with JG3
« on: April 17, 2023, 03:53:40 PM »

Baer had a brief stint with JG3 in the last half of 1944.
He (reportedly) flew an FW190A-8.
Does anyone have info or an image , or even better a skin made for this aircraft ?

Any help appreciated.

Thank You for answering V201calaf ,

But if you look , the skin you posted is for JG1.
I am looking for a skin for his aircraft ( FW190A-8 )
that he flew with with JG3.

Unfortunately i cannot find that skin on web. I have 10 of JG1. And 3 or 4 of the JG3. But generic skins not that one.
Bar serve as Geschwaderkommodore for six months on JG3 but on goggle you only find pictures of JG1. I will continue searching information about that plane.

PS: i suffer a disease call SAS (skin acquisition syndrome)  ;)

Okay Guys,

It appears I have been barking up the wrong tree.
Now I have discovered that Stab JG3 during Baer's tenure , flew Bf109Gs -
probably either G6Erlas , or G-14s.
So I am looking for a skin for Stab JG3 for a Bf109G6Erla or G14.
Only IV/JG3 flew FW190A-8s.

As before , if anyone has a skin or reference material here , it would
be well appreciated.

Remember Bär had a personal tenure on 13,
this he took over to EJG and Me262 as well, it brought him luck.  ;)

At cowling and Fuselage Markings, well, these are to be kept as close as other a/c from this timeline/unit.

Older ressources reliabillity, even when authorized by Bär or Veterans themselves:

Remember, 1950s-1970s was a time of Western authors doing fancy Profiles/artwork.
Whatever you might catch from that period, question it deeply and cross check with evidence.
fancy Red 23 was fictional crap.
At the time thought to be historical, though no
pictorial record exists, Guys like Bär didn't cared if the Profile was not matching a Picture,
only the attention he got on his name was important.
Today we know it better.

Yes Guys ,

V201calaf is correct.
There are many wonderful versions of Baer's FW190A7 Red 13 which he flew with
JG1. Our friend Knoch has indicated that the other skin sometimes attributed to Baer - Red 23 -
is likely not historically accurate.
I have yet to find visual or written description of Baer's airplanes flown as Kommodore JG3.
Stab JG3 was known to fly both Bf109Gs and FW190As at this time.
The quick visual reference that this is not the aircraft I am looking for is the fuselage tail band.
At this time , each Jagdgeschwader flying  over Reich territory was assigned a specific tailband
colour scheme :

As you can see here , the rot (red ) tailband designated JG 1  ; JG3 was identified by a weiss ( white ) band.
Still hoping one of you diggers might find something definitive.
Until then , any skin is pure speculation.

I appreciate the continued interest in this mystery.
