DPI settings not retained
« on: April 27, 2023, 07:40:50 AM »

I am having an issue on my MS surface windows 10. To launch IL-2 without changing the video settings of the laptop I have changed the DPI settings using the compatibility TAB in the file properties and everything works. However I noticed that if I fiddle around doing other task in the laptop the setting get lost and are not retained. So I have to restart the process again it last for a while and then lost again. This is quite annoying and I can't find a solution for this odd behavior. In my other PC also on windows 10 once the settings are changed they are retained. Does anybody has an idea on why this is happening and a possible solution
Thank you and cheers

... hope I understood you correctly.

Have you activated the write protection of your "conf.ini"?  ;)

No maybe I wasn't clear it is not a conf.ini setting issue. It is on the properties compatibility tab of the il2fb.exe "change the high DPI" so that IL-2 will override the 125% scaling of my laptop Windows setting and use 100% scaling

I understand.

Just tested and did the reverse of your concern and changed the scaling to 125% - nothing happens - weird.

sure nothing happens as il-2 will now control DPI scaling and use the 100% now my problem is that this setting is lost after a while

Hello Frankiek,

now I understand it.

Didn't know you have to restart your PC after making the change.

Once again:

I only changed the scaling from (normal) 100% to 125% to test your problem.

I had restarted several times with the 125% and always got the DPI resolution of 125%, everything ran stably.

I then switched back to 100% DPI (as is correct for my system) and everything is stable again as it should be.

Here are the "proof photos":

You can see the difference in the size of the icons, these icons (1st pic 125%) are larger.

MS Surface have a life of their own.
We have three such beasts in our meeting rooms and every other day they decide to play tricks on us.
I only trust a surface as far as I can throw it.
Just saying...

Well my Surface Pro 4 has an history of his own as it was exposed to a good number of mishaps in very challenging operational environments, meaning highly unreliable electricity supply, dust/dirt/water, shocks, charging cycles unpredictable and IT support do it yourself that is better. All this resulting on need to replace display, motherboard and battery. On the plus side, very easy to stow in any possible bag, less than 1Kg, very nice display, powerful I7, 8gb memory, SSD only and 6 years gone still working pretty well. As far as IL-2 is concerned this is what allowed me to stay in touch with my favorite hobby and I can run "Black Death" in UP34 using directx with average 60 fps, with no texture compression, all the video setting on high except the shadows, landscape lighting=2, water=2 and effects=1.

Strange thing I started to notice the problem with the DPI setting when I changed my additional microSD with a more capable one and took out the BitLocker encoding to facilitate the swapping of the SD.

However as I have reached the end of the professional (always on a luggage) life I will maybe transition to a more stable alternative
