Adding a new animated, billowing smoke for big fuel fires
« on: May 10, 2023, 01:30:59 AM »

Just tried an experiment using an animated texel, the use of which I've seen for an effects mod as shown on YouTube.

For the big fuel fires, in addition to the main smoke column whose particles fade out after 150 seconds, a much shorter duration animated smoke gives the billowing character. This effect's particles fade out after 8 seconds, giving way to the softer smoke texture. It's really nicely evocative!

The object placement here is nonsensical, as it's just an effects testing 'proving ground' mission I use for quickly checking things out.   ;)

I've done the same for smaller fuel fires:

- Train oil wagons, for the initial larger fire/heavier smoke period
- Small fuel tanks and barrels (unless randomly reduced to "Vehicle" type)
- Fuel trucks, if and while the random larger initial fire is invoked
- Plane crashes on land when the plane has 2+ engines, and when single-engine planes are randomly treated as having 2 engines (a new larger fire accompanies this smoke as well)

Glen this effect looks superb, are you going to release it on its own or in your next effects update, Kev.

My usual practice is to bundle everything into a comprehensive collection. Releasing this kind of new stuff piecemeal could result in more difficulty with maintaining changes to classes. It would involve keeping track of multiple variations of a given class. It's already daunting enough handling effectively three versions of my effects (4.12, earlier B.A.T and later B.A.T.). And even then I'm not fully up to date with the very latest B.A.T. in some respects.

This is a rather big undertaking for just one floundering chimp. And numerous other projects are pulling at me simultaneously.

I hope to push my big effects pack, version v1.7 out the door soon.
