Ah, the version I grew up with. Except it was the retail 2001 version. As a child, I've always wanted to fly the unflyable, like the Bf-109K-4 or the other Fw-190s.

Thanks for sharing. I had a disk from some computer magazine but lost it years ago. Played it for a while and then bought the original full version as soon as it appeared in the shop.

A couple of years ago, there was one server with the first version on. Probably already gone.

We can perfectly download Il-2 (2001), Il-2 Forgotten Battles & Pacific Fighters, as well as buy 1946 from Steam/GOG or download it from the internet archive. But there's no possible way of getting Il-2 Ace Expansion Pack without buying a disk (Which I do have but my PC's disk slot isn't able to read right now).

Picture this.
It's January 2002, you are trying so hard to shoot down an Fw-189. (Yes, I hated that mission as a child) Or, you're testing the Il-2's durability by crashing it every way possible without blowing it up.

And then a time traveller from 2007 shows you this image.

Would you have believed them?

the gunner from the FW-189 is so accurate it will snipe from 6-700 meters away and the LaGG so slow you will always arrive on the scene when the leader did the job

Thanks for the reminder of the old days, early in 2002.

Back then you couldn't choose very much, especially not skins.

The skins in 256x256 looked very modest, but I flew almost every day. On a 17" monitor and an Nvidia GX2 graphics card,

you were happy when the game ran smoothly and without jerking.

But then, from 2004, v4.07 & Forgotten Battles...

just super class!

And to make things worse, the MiG-3U's fuel tanks are easy to set ablaze.

Yeah, I wish there was the arming selection screen that was introduced in Forgotten Battles...

Yes, that would have been a great thing back then.

I love this Sim, what I do not love so much is the Musical part.
This crap Midi Sampling of dissonancy.
First thing I do on reinstalls, deactivate this reaping Audio.

Let's start a Rave.

Sure
Someone has to make a remix or a cover out of the Il-2 soundtracks
