The last pic in your cockpit series looked fine.

Hello again guys, here is another link to the WIP so far. ;)

Mediafire link:

Link removed by me on 12th June 2023, new link further down the thread.

Updates today from readme file:

Dorand AR-1 spotter biplane cockpit WIP, Peter Shaw aka Mission_bug.

Readme update for 31st May 2023:

Please completely replace my previous release as there have been alterations to the java and model for this release.

3d model of the aircraft Dorand AR-1:Dimon.

Default skin and skinpack:stiv_069

Cockpit addition: Pete Shaw aka Mission_bug. Cockpit class was originally from the RE8 but I then used the one from the BreguetXIV released by Kant at AviaSkins, I renamed it for the Dorand and the cockpit uses much of that cockpit, the Parts mesh had the seats removed, other interior parts are from the Dorand model as I tried to keep as much as I could of the actual aircraft.

Some instruments are not yet working, this is the same for the Breguet, the compass, throttle lever trim wheel and some instrument pointers so for now will have to remain as they are but I have included my java files from eclipse if anyone wants to tinker, if you do and fix anything please upload into the thread so everyone can benefit from it.

There is a instrument panel I made still in the pack but I opted to just use what I had superimposed on the original AR-1 panel. Textures for that came from a video of the AR-1 for MSF and it was used originally to try and develop an authentic panel but enough information to confirm details was not available.

Original AI slot of the Dorand AR-1: The model came from AviaSkins but I do not know who created the actual AI slot for it at the moment, if anyone knows please let me know and I will add that to the credits, it might have been Dimon.

There is not a working gunner station, all I have worked on is the cockpit so the remainder of the model is still as it was posted by its author.

previous stick and rudder bar from the RE have been removed and the Breguet parts used instead.

Not sure when any further work will take place, if at all so I have posted what I have so far. :)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello guys, glad  you like it so far. 8)

I have been trying for a few days to get the compass moving to no avail and decided yesterday it was holding everything else up so I finsished up what I had and posted, hopefully I will return to it and carry on but right now other things get in the way so I thought it better to take a break and post what you have so far. ;)

I gave up the idea of trying to make a new instrument panel with no decent information other than the posted video I decided it would be best to use something already there and so you have it, not perfect but at least it has a cockpit and hopefully you can now get some enjoyment from it. Better that you have what was available than have to wait for a long time until I got around to trying to fix up what is still not working.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello again guys, I have been tinkering some more. ;)

The compass would not work whatever I did but I noticed in BAT that the the Curtiss Jenny also has these same parts
and they all seemed to be fully working so I dumped the classfile from the Jenny cockpit and renamed it for the Dorand,
now as far as I can tell all the instruments work although it will need a proper test to check, that I will leave for you
guys to mess with once I upload a new link.  :D

A few have commented on the gaps you can see where the nose panels fit so rather than try and alter those
I decided to make some kind of frame that might hide the issues, so far only one side piece that once mapped
will most likely be cloned and attached together to make a full frame:

Another way would be to just put a bulkhead there but I will see what this looks like and take it from there.

Next up was the compass housing, there was some sort of pin that looked like it should fit into something to
fix it in place but as I do not know who made the compass or what it came from in the first place I removed it
as it looked odd with no purpose. Besides that, I chopped off the body to lower it and filled in the hole at the
top that was there and bent the cable round a little:

Here we see the final outcome loaded in QMB:

Finally, I added some java to make the trim wheel work and orientated it accordingly, the throttle now also moves
using the class from the Jenny:

As soon as I manage to make the new part and see what it looks like I will update the link again, not sure how
long though.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello again guys, here is a new link with the alterations previously mentioned.  ;)

Mediafire link, 12th June 2023:

Link removed by me on 16th June, new one further on in the thread.

Readme update for 12th June 2023.

Please completely remove your previous version and use this updated one as there have been various changes to java, hier, meshes and and other files and the introduction of new textures and mat files.

New cockpit class renamed from the Curtiss Jenny found in BAT, this now enables the compass, other instruments, and the throttle to work now. (I think the Jenny model and class files were put together by Vampire_pilot)

Previous Trym mesh was renamed to Z_Trim1, the mesh was reorientated after adding the java entry to allow it to turn.

Some faces were removed from the existing compass mesh as I thought these were unnecessary for this cockpit, original mesh author unknown.

Two meshes made to help block the holes seen from badly fitting front panels, AR1FrontFrame as well as AR1FrontFramePanel. For the moment they are separate to allow just the frame or full closing of the front bay, you can deactivate the panel in the hier. They have their own texture.

Two new meshes made to hide the gaps previously seen due to bad panel fitting, both are separate pieces in the hier
so you can alter to taste:

Here just the frame is active:

Then with both fitted, it ships like this:

Please test and report back. :D

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello guys, glad you are happy with it so far. 8)

I forgot something yesterday when I made the upload, I did not replace the wings that were hidden while I tinkered with things in Sknil. :-[

To put them back just go into your cockpit folder hier file and remove the word 'Hidden' from the wings entry and move the text
line up where the gap is:

Sorry about that guys, there is no point me making another upload for this as it is such a simple fix to do yourself, I spent much of the
time looking inside the cockpit while tinkering that I forgot I hid the wings to help me see just what I was messing with. :D

Hello guys, yet more tinkering. :D

Alex told me the hook in the Lewis gun was wrong and suggested this:

[Hooks]
_MGUN01 <BASE>

[HookLoc]
0 -1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 -0.058 -2.442 1.127

You can open up your Lewis mesh and add yourself or maybe wait until I upload again. ;)

While tinkering I took a look at weapon option, all I could find was of 80Kg, one source said
internally, yet our model has them hung under the wings, nothing more than that so I will
leave it as is.

Mention is made of twin Lewis guns for the gunner, so I thought I would take a look, I thought
it was possible to add this as an armament option where you could select between turret gun
in your drop-down menu but looking through old stuff I could not figure out if that was possible.

Solution, made a second slot and borrowed some guns from the Breguet:

I will need to move the hooks but at least it seems to work, I will pass this on to my partner in crime and all round
technical Guru, Alex, and let him give it the all clear.  :)

While I am still tinkering maybe I should also change the turret gun in the existing model into a Lewis with the
ammo drum instead of what we have at the moment:

Any thoughts please guys on this, leave as is or try and find one with a drum?

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
