Create videos with FRAPS & Shotcut
« on: May 30, 2023, 08:59:34 AM »

Hello friends, hi Sergent Pepper,

my videos are created as follows:

• Start (if you own it) TrackIR (thanks to -bb-, Gubi and Storebror).

• Start FRAPS, choose your preferred settings and "minimize" FRAPS to the taskbar.

• Start your (whatever) game, for me it is #WAW3.

• Start FRAPS with the "Screen Capture Hotkey" you have set.

• When you have finished your mission, press the "Screen Capture Hotkey" again and exit FRAPS.

• Start your video creation program, my program is called "Shotcut", below I give you a list of links.

• Open your previously designated "Temp Fraps" folder (however named and wherever...) and copy the ".avi" files you want.

The advantage of FRAPS:

Very good image quality, runs very stable, without jerking and without sound problems. No unwanted "brands"!

The disadvantage of Fraps:

In contrast to the usual ":ntrk" recordings, it does not make sense to press the map button in the game while the video is being recorded.

Another disadvantage are the very large ".avi" files. You need a lot of hard disk space for the excellent picture quality.

Luckily, the .avi files are just temp files that will be deleted later.

My Temp folder list and FRAPS settings:

Shotcut:

Shotcut is a powerful and easy-to-use tool. The program is free and can be translated into many different languages.

Have fun creating videos.

With best regards

Hello BK,

I do close to the same.
1 use OBS Studio
https://obsproject.com/fr/download
not Fraps. OBS Studio is free and does SAME thing.
I work with ntracks for being able to use F2 ( Shift and CTRL F2) and F3 views,  static cameras key.
And mouse of course.
OBS Studio can be set in pause while recording (with another key)
You can also use microphone to comment  in live in OBS.
(I do prefer to be centred on flying and firing)

I cut the "rushes" with Avidemux (free too) to delete not useful stuff for video sequence.
https://avidemux.sourceforge.net/
Avidemux doesn't reencode file.

Then, I edit selected files with a video editor (not free but with allowing to use microphone, to eventually add a comment).

 :)

Hello Sergent Pepper,

As you can see from the photos, I also use Avidemux, albeit rarely.

And of course I can also record an external microphone with FRAPS.

But you can also record (several additional) soundtracks with Shotcut and "push" these recordings in a video where you want them to be.

Many years ago I created videos with SONY VEGAS 9. With the change from Win7 to Win10, I said goodbye to the (for me) overloaded SONY software.

I didn't want to advertise FRAPS and Shotcut here. I just wanted to show an easy way how to create high quality videos of games with freeware.

That's why I had the download links (on MediaFire for me) set here.

Many thanks for your response. Diversity can never be a mistake!

Now I'll take a look at your reference OBS Studio.

With best regards

I use Movavi, can't remember where I stumbled across it.
Dunno, that's my style. I paid the few Bucks to get the pro Version.
No setbacks, it has all the stuff you need, more that I actually use.
Nevertheless videoediting reminds me of Powerpoint, sth. I really hate doing.  :D

Great discussion and share of Tricks, Tips, I'm really a Noob at this
