Simple cumulus cloud texture

UPDATE, Jul 25, 2023:

In this image I'm using a different Reshade effect, hence the quite different color cast overall.


Altered the texture so as to:
- have a somewhat less 'ragged' edge
- have a very slightly darker, yellowish aspect
- Have a bit less opacity for better blending.

The new and the previous texture are present, so that you can choose which you prefer. The Cloud.mat file is edited to select this new texture, having in the name "_darker_yellow. Overall, the changes are on the subtle side; don't expect some radical difference.  ;) D/L link is the same, below...

This is just the one texture that is used to generate the simple cumulus clouds.

This is the simple cumulus cloud, which can help with frame rates for less capable hardware. Note that due to its simplicity, it looks better for the better weather conditions. The worse the weather, the less pleasing in appearance, to me, anyway. Of course you must decide this yourself.  ;)

Moreover, this type cloud is rendered at a fairly small size, and is not adjustable to my knowledge.


In your conf.ini, look in the [game] section for the following line. If not present, add it:

TypeClouds=0

If you change the 0 to 1, the better quality clouds are used.



If you already have a mod containing the folder

Effects/Clouds/

you can add these three files to it. Certainly so for my own effects pack.

Your cumulus clouds (clouds=0) look very good!

With an inferior graphic card or a mission with a lot of moving objects, your mod will be of great help.

Gerhard,
Your screenshot looks like it is showing my older texture included in my effects pack. (This newer texture has more irregular, fine structure.) If so, rename this newer folder so that it sits above my Effects folder. Or simply copy these two new files to my existing Effects/Clouds folder in my main Effects folder. The Cloud.mat file will have to be overwritten, but the .tga file here is completely new.

Yes WxTech you're right!

All the same settings in QMB as before but with ! xxx" in front your mod in my #WAW3 mods folder.

It looks much better. Thanks a lot.

I'll make a new test run with your effects and these clouds to see if there is any frame rate improvement on my old PC, it's 13 years old now!  ;)

Maybe I have find an error that I keep in my conf.ini from a lot of time....please teach me about:

Actually I have the code TypeClouds=1 in my [Render_OpenGL] section and NOT in the [game] one....

About this....is the same or I have it in the wrong place and I have to move it in the [game] section as mandatory condition to enable correct functionality of the string?

Solved...wrong installation of the clouds command code....now all work fine!

Here how it seem in BAT 4.2.2. without your mods....

Another question because I don't see a huge difference changing from older to newer...:

Why in your mod: WxTech_Effects_v1.6_ALL-game-versions the cloud effect are in the !0_WxTech_Effects_v1.6_ALL-game-versions/effect/clouds....

But in your mod: WxTech clouds Jan 2023 is inside WxTech clouds Jan 2023/3do/effect/clouds?

SELF SOLVED

The 3do folder doeasn't have to contain effect/clouds folder....please check your clouds update....maybe wrong folders depth....

The clouds coverage in my test (thunder) is absolutley less dense with the Typeclouds=0....with Typecluds01 the sky is completely filled with clouds....

There are a lot of pros and cons....I don't like to start a discussion that are outside the scope of this test....

From my side the apparence of the clouds with this last development is more soft edged and realistic....I think that I'll continue to use it in Typeclouds=0

I've got so used to the majority of my smaller, more individual mods having their contents in the 3do folder that out of habit I mistakenly created the  3do folder here. Indeed, the correct path has NO 3do folder.

As I pointed out in the readme, these simple clouds do not look so good for the bad weather types.

And again, their existence is intended for less capable hardware, being more applicable years ago. That's why I first asked if anyone was using this option today, given how more powerful computers are now and at comparatively low prices.

I have only a doubt about clouds and 4.12 in general....

AI should'n see enemy aircrafts through clouds....but which clouds?

The bigger of Typeclouds=1 , the smoller of Typeclouds=0 or the game engine adapt the blind AI to the real ingame type , position and dimension of clouds?
