Hi Wing Walker,
You might want to pay our "official" game server a visit, see details here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,237.0.htmlWe are meeting every Sunday at around 3 PM GMT (standard time) / 2 PM GMT (daylight saving time).
The session length is 3~4 hours, but you can pop in and out at will.
Besides the Sunday session there's some activity on the server too, just pop in and see who you meet.
The Server is using Ultrapack 3.4 which you can grab here:

https://www.youtube.com/@bomberkiller9880/videosWatching all the new Flightsims on yutube, I don't see much difference between our IL2 dogfight EXPERIENCES and the new stuff with the a/c being so technical. (I think us old IL2 Pilots would kick the ass of DCS pilots if in equal FM's... I mean they never heard of boom and zoom? ) They seem to think everything is a turn.
I don't see many using aircraft-specific tactics. Though I just watch a few of the channels. The difference in technical a/c management and physics of DCS and old IL2 seem to go away when you get into a turn fight.
I mean I just feel WE think more about historical tactics specific to an aircraft we are in from what I've seen (based on my past online play)...
I don't think so.
Being both an IL-2 and DCS player myself, I have to say that fights between WW2 aircraft are
vastly different from fights with modern jets.
You can already get an idea of a small part of the differences when you play jets with guided missiles in Ultrapack (we only feature subsonic "silver barrels" in Ultrapack, it's a design decision, but the missiles already make a huge difference in tactics).
Whereas in a WW2 dogfight altitude means energy and energy means life, tables turn when guided missiles are involved: All of a sudden, altitude means exposure, and the deck is where you survive.
And that's just one tiny example.
My experience as a pretty old IL-2 fart who just lately joined the DCS gang is that "we" suck balls when starting to apply our well-trained tactics in a different era of dogfighting, just like probably anyone in real life would. Almost no one in IL-2 cares for "one-circle" vs "two-circle" dogfights. Try that in DCS...
To add to this, I also flew "Flying Circus" (WW1) in IL-2 Great Battles (nope, no "Rise of Flight" experience here) and even that is a completely different style of fighting than WW2 dogfights are.
If you are looking for a good DCS channel where fights are carried out to aircraft and loadout specific advantages, I'd recommend giving "Growling Sidewinder"'s channel a try:
