Help for Logitech Extreme 3d Pro
« on: July 21, 2023, 02:59:04 PM »

It is a couple of months that I am facing a strange issue with my Joystick Extreme 3d pro that I bought as a replacement of my old one. I know that is not the best performer and that quality has been deteriorating lately but I am using it since 15 years so It is difficult to change (I am clearly aging).

What has happened is that suddenly the fire buttons (1 for Mgs, 2 for Cannons and 3 that I use to fire 1+2 together)  started lagging. The lag is difficult to predict but it is more likely to happen at short range and while maneuvering (meaning after you have been working very hard to get an excellent firing position) so you push the button nothing happens for one or two time then you get the accumulated burst that will go on even after trigger release and you need to press the button a second time to stop. It buttons may then work normally for a few shots then problem reappears again.

I have tried all the tricks I know with calibration (Joy.cpl) but the stick there is impeccable buttons never fails and timing is perfect. I also tried calibration on line and it passes all the tests. Old calibration tools from the logitech team to no avail. Changing USB port (4 of them including USB3 and powered USB multiport), uninstalling completely all the HID devices, reboot and reinstalling one by one. Nothing works and the worst is that the problem exist only with IL-2. Stick in other games works well and behaves properly

Anybody faced similar issues? Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hi;

I have here some steps and Logitech app to follow[pics], try if it cures the problem. First you can uninstall  this app to
return to the default settings in JS calibration of windows. So it doesnt need step by step as for a knowledgeable users.

You may google [search] for logitech game profiler or download
here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/tjz35sd901y7lsv/lgs510_x64.exe/file

It though fix my firing delay or at times a little stuck but unsure for other factors for other files not mine ..

Thank you i will try your files. I used the profiler in both the original version (from the install cd) and the final update (i think 2010) downloaded from the logitech site. It didn't solve the problem. It is quite strange as in the profiler everything works as it should while inside il-2 you get the lag.

Well the firing button works with the app but in IL2 its laggy. My last option which I will do myself since I got another old logitech JS is I assume a loose connection[physical]. Though not sure I saw this Yt tutorial just this hour, it may help a loose connector fix but the hard part is opening the JS. Its on part 7:18 of 12:22. Its in the neck portion in the column of connectors that all connects to a one large black wire going up to the stick control buttons. The hard part opening is in the stick area because there are many buttons, in opening the neck area it might not need opening the whole stick[unsure]. Better to see the whole vid. Just an idea or opinion :-X

Yes i opened my old one once to try to fix some of the buttons and you need to be extra careful starting with taking out first the stick screws open everything up and then move to the base otherwise you won't be able to have your base loose. But you need to pay attention to the springs and the ball movements. I qm not sure i am going to open it a second time as it took me quite a lot and didn't succeed in repairing the buttons as i needed to actually change the actuators it wasn't just a matter of dirt or simple misalignment.

Try assigning the weapon's trigger to a different button on the joystick. Does the problem go away then?

I tried to a limited extent with no effect but I will try some more radical change even though using buttons that are on the joystick base for weapons is not really ideal.

This is not about assigning another button permanently. This attempt will narrow down the circle of suspects. So what is the effect of changing the button? Does it work without lag?

I changed weapons from button 1, 2 and 3 to 7, 8 and 9 and nothing changes, erratic lag still persist in particular when you are very close to your target. I really don't know what to think as I tried complete uninstall from device manager, installing without the Logitech software using the standard windows and installing using the logitech profiler software and nothing changes.

I also don't understand as my old extreme 3d from 2005 (that has other problem with more imprecise flying and buttons 9 and 11 with bad contacts) not having any lag problem.

So I can choose between flying more imprecise using a larger dead zone and using less buttons or flying a little better with all the buttons but ready to accept lag when firing.

Sure I could also throw everything in the dustbin and buy a better stick.

I have such a joystick and I know its construction very well. A long time ago, I opened it every now and then and corrected something. The problem you describe is strange. I really have no idea what the cause is. However, since the gun trigger assigned to the buttons in the base still gives a delay effect and another joystick of the same type works correctly, I bet that the chip on the 'motherboard', to which all the cables from the potentiometers and switches are connected, is somehow damaged. If you feel up to it manually - move the 'motherboard' from the second joystick. However, I do not vouch for the effect. Explode nothing will explode, but will it help...?

But if the "motherboard" somehow malfunctions how comes that the joystick pass all the calibration test (Joy.pcl), online tests (I did three odfferent) and works well with software packages different from Il-2?

I'm just thinking out loud. The choice is yours.

Edit: The biggest problem with getting to the 'motherboard' is that you have to completely disassemble the handle.
This is an activity that requires attention and delicacy when it is done for the first time. And finally, you have to put it all together  :).
