Draken;
A wild suggestion I guess but maybe you could use the Trigger objects to 'simulate' hitting a submarine.
For example;

Place "Message" triggers on the map and make the circumference small.  If your aircraft flies through it on a depth-charge run you get a message stating "the submarine has been hit" or something similar.  Combine it with a Trigger "Apparition" object and have a smoke object appear on the surface using the same method.  It's too bad there isn't an "oil slick" object for the water that you could use (there's a less than subtle hint for the modders out there!!!  nudge, nudge, wink, wink, saynomore!)  ;)
Along the same lines you could use the Trigger "Apparition" object and have a sub appear if you fly through the Trigger 'circle' simulating it being forced to the surface from your depth charge attack.  The smaller you make the Trigger circle the harder it would be to do it if you get my meaning.

It would be a bit artificial but might be worth a try.

Long ago I built and flew a mission in a PBY from Tulagi all the way to
Kahili - took a long time , and the PBY ran out of fuel -
which it would not have done historically.

I know. The PBY fuel allocation is nowhere near RL. I use the 'unlimited fuel' option for long missions with that aircraft.

Frankiek;
I think that idea is an effect linked to an explosion or destruction, what I'm suggesting is a standalone object (stationary object similar to lights, fires, smoke).  I'm not sure if WxTech's effect can be separated out.

I also like to fly non-combat missions. Personally I like short-range recon missions over or just behind enemy front lines. Sneaking in avoiding fighters and flak to complete your mission really gets your blood running and after each mission you wonder how is it possible I am still alive.

Try flying a Storch across Normandy during the summer of 1944 !

Yes, indeed. Or, try flying a Fokker CX over Karelian Isthmus in June 1944. Or Yak-11 over Suez in 1956.

I believe all kinds of missions are needed and there are people who like them. That is the reason I always include recons, seaplanes and transports (if possible) in my DCG campaigns.

I would like a long range mission over the sea to search submarines .
But I am not sure if the depht charges can destroy a submerged submarine .

The submerged sub objects in 'ships' can be destroyed by bombs/dc. Just tested with a PBY, very low level attack (basically a skip or masthead approach), 6 x 500lb bombs, set to bomb train, 3 second fuse.

I do like the idea of using a trigger to simulate forcing a sub to surface - quite realistic.

Interesting ! Can you tell us which ones ? Those missions can be extremely challenging !!!

Sorry, can't remember them by name or by authors. The training was an interesting part of some good campaigns for Me 163 and Me 262. Recon was a typical feature of VVS campaigns made by Russian and Ukrainian authors in the "golden years" of this sim, etc...

I've put some of those kinds of missions in my campaigns. Also uneventful missions over the front lines.

cheers

Transport missions where you just fly the plane - pure joy.

Or fly a towed glider...

Also, since the addition of triggers to BAT, you can now compile quite complex and varied 'missions within a mission'. Start with a simple point-to-point journey, but add new orders/instructions via a trigger when landed to commence a new task, and so on.

I did a quick check last night (using HSFX).  Among the Objects are of course a bunch of 'decals' which vary from grass verges to aircraft runway skid marks.   I placed a group of those skid mark objects on the water and they made a passable albeit clunky stationary oil slick.
I'm not sure and will have to check but I think my original logic may be faulty in that I think the Trigger Apparition object will work with "Stationary Objects" but not "Objects".  I'll have to test it.  Stay tuned.
