Location of Uzhgorod AF during WWII ?
« on: September 02, 2023, 01:25:04 PM »

The Uzhgorod AF is located south from Uzhgorod on default Il2 map of Lvov,
while it is located northwest from the city center on contemporary maps.
Is there any error , pklease?

I had trouble navigating the pages due to the language barrier, but there was a 1939 map that hopefully will have what you need.

Would you be so kind and show a screenshot, please ?
I cannot get it sufficiently contrast.

EDIT:
I have found a note in Czech about the aiírfield south of the village called Minai (south of Uzhgorod)

Conclusion:
Airfield northwest of Uzhgorod should be added to Il2 Lvov map, and maintain there the backup one at Minaj village..

Here is the screen shot of the map I mentioned. It is 1937, not 1939 as I had thought. I am not sure if it represents the area you need; I don't know the language and as you say, the map is hard to read, especially for people with tired eyes.

Here are data on Uzhorod airfield  in Czech:

http://www.vrtulnik.cz/ww2/protektorat-uzhorod.htm

It seems that the NW field is mainly grass with concrete single runway and hangar places. Nothing is not known about bacup airfield, most probably grass one-

Hi Uzin,
I think this is a very good and needed proposal for change the more according to the historical location the better,
Thank you to the creator of this map (it's really nice) although there are more such inaccuracies on it e.g. lack of a few villages and towns within Krosno and beyond, their wrong location as it seems to me, not to mention the lack of an airfield in Krosno etc.

Best regards,
Piotrek

Thank you, Piotrek,
AF at Krosno can be added, of course, after finding historical data in wwII.
It woul be nice to mention the villages omitted, too.

Here we can find some information about the airfield in Krosno:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,60332.0.html
As far as the missing towns and viliges are concerned, we have a preview at the link below, but I will try to find and post more tomorrow:

To my surprise, there is not any airfield near Lvov at Il2 default map.
As wiki says, it was established in 1929 as Lwów-Skniłów Airport. Skniłów was the name of the neighbouring village which today is part of Lviv.
