Well I had to reinstall my Windows 10 all went well till I tried to install IL2 1946 No LUCK CD would not work my backup 1946 installs would not work so looks like I will have to live without m old IL2.

Il2 runs fine on windows 10 for me, although I bought it on steam for ease of installation

That it doesnt work from the disk is normal, out of my head you should start a file named a.exe to install from the disk.

But your backup should work, did you try to start it straight from the il2fb.exe?

Could be your missing drivers/files on your system.


IL2 1946 from GOG will work as far as i know, since i just used that 2 weekes ago as my original disk is damadged, So i got the version from GOG as its fully updated to 4.13.X and used the unpatcher from here to bring it back to 4.12.2: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,55464.0.html

I installed from the DVD using the a it installed ok but would not load the sim it did not work I then installed SAS 4.12.2 Mega patch still not working.

I do think im missing something in my new Windows install.

I did install Pacific Fighters from DVD and it installed ok but got error 0xc0000142 message tried a lot of things off the net with no luck so uninstalled it.

Original DVD version needs to be installed by running "a.exe" instead of "setup.exe" from the DVD.
Not exactly intuitive, but that's how it works.

With setup.exe you open a splash screen with the option to install or start game with a.exe install will start immediately

Game has installed but click on the il2 icon on the desktop and nothing go into the install click on the exe and nothing.

Dunno, when I needed to get whatever Windows reinstalled my Game didn't started either,
nor Backups.
Only Deinstallation of IL-2 worked (via CD). Don't abort, wait patiently, takes a while.

Then Re-install (via CD), the Game was running again, included old Backups.

Dunno if it's the same issue.

Thanks a million Frankiek I would have spent the rest of what I have left of my life without 1L2 1946 I do have IL2 GB but no Pacific war and I do not like it any way.

Did you turn D.E.P. your self or did it Enable it self? because from what i am seeing in Windows 11 it enabled it self after an update, but your on 10 right?
