Map in MapBuilder and Game differ?
« on: November 09, 2023, 02:32:21 PM »

Sorry for posting this here, but I couldn't open a new thread in the "Map Worx".

I just noticed a difference between the position of objects in the MapBuilder and in the finished map in game.
Please have a look:

in the MapBuilder:

in Game:

It seems -actually- that the problem may lie somewhere in the map_c!?

Can anyone solve this?

Thanks!

The shifted water edge suggests that map_c lies at the root. But I don't recall ever seeing such a discordance between builder and game play placement of water edges.

Hi,

If i recall correctly, in map builder you cannot have "Perfect" water, hence the shallow water is not visibile.

Refering to Gitanos hint, I did some testing in this direction.

Turns out, that you actually CAN improve the quality in the MapBuilder to perfect. (I use a MB based on HSFX)

Than I copied the water setup from the game-conf.ini to the MapBuilder-conf.ini. See the result:

MB with Water=0/1

MB with Water=2

game with Water=2

Seems that Gitano is right!
Thanks a lot Gitano!!!

So it is recommended that you have the MB settings equal to the game settings to prevent objects appear in the water.
Learning never stops!

Another strange problem/ question:

I learned recently (thanks a lot bomberkiller) that all texture files should be in .tga-format.
When I was correcting this in my Baltic_Sea_Map, I created a new folder within the _Tex folder called BalticSea.
I planned to transfer all used textures from this map in just one folder, that is supposed to come with the map download.

Than THIS problem showed up:

Every other line seems to accept the BalticSea folder.
The files are identical, the error accurs only in the BeachFoam line.
And the BeachFoam line seems to accept only the written texture.

Is anyone really familiar with the load.ini?
I would be glad if someone could give a little jedi master, as there are more questions to the single line within the load.ini!?

Thanks

My two cents:

Have you tried renaming the texture PacificFoam.tga instead of PacificFoam_.tga as sometimes the special characters are not taken up well by the game?

Have you also checked the tga to verify if it is just exactly as the others as sometimes in the extraction/conversion process we could have introduced some undesired feature?

In  any case  this new version looks very promising

Unfortunatly I thought of this, too and removed the _.
No improvement.
And the file is a direct copy of the one from the former folder.

Maybe water is a specific folder....have you take a look at other maps load.ini to check the folder where those water textures are placed there?

It is equal to other maps. There is the main _ Tex folder ehere there are subfolders like land/summer ... forrest/autumn ... and the water folder.

And the thing is, as it is shown in the picture, that three of four textures, that I took from the water subfolder into the BalticSea folder, work!?

At the end it is not that important, but I would have been glad to understand it...

Hi
Rename the tex as : PacificFoam_TL.tga
And let it unchanged in the load.ini (PacificFoam_.tga)
I think that it should solve the problem.
