Hello my friends i'm new to VP MODPAK and not sure about a couple of things ..i have a brand new SSD  and don't want to burn it out after 3 failed installs ,i purchased a copy from Steam just updated to 4,12,2 ..do i need to install the SAS megapatch ?? DCG and mod compatibility files should be installed inside JSGME ?? thanx in advance

Welcome, from one guitar player to another.

I am a BAT user, not so much the VP MODPAK, but I believe if you are adding mods on top of a Steam-installed IL-2 1946, there are some things you have to do that are different from the traditional CD.  Anything that is installed to one of the Windows protected directories, to include \Program Files and \Program Files 86 has to contend with potential errors because Windows is finicky... much better to install to a custom directory in the root.

In anyways.  You will find that you will get more help if you use the Search box in the forum, because chances are your topic is already covered, and I do recall a discussion on these installations.

Oh, I do have a Spanish Contreras Classical made in 1985.  I bought it in 1988, when I thought I would be come a musician... I was enrolled in a Classical Guitar music major, with inspirations of becoming the next Yngwie Malmsteen... but it turned out harder than engineering, so I took the evil IT path... 



My pre-teen son though, is quite the guitar prodigy, and is slowly taking over my instruments and effects...  my teen daughter could be the next Mozart if she wanted... but instead wants to be an animator...  well at least they inherited the genes from their more musical grand-mother, and great-aunts...

A very very good guitar..i knew about IL2 need to be instaled outside from Program Files ,but it's unclear to me if i do need the mega patch ,it seems that some folks just install VP MODPAK just directly in top of some 4.12.2 "clean" install

That I do not know.  Seems the VP MODPACK installation instructions would tell you.  Just make sure you stay away from anything beyond 4.12.2 for modding purposes.  The later patches from TD are not really compatible with them, as far as I know.  But I am coming from a BAT perspective.

yes i know the SAS docs but no complete path to a VP MODPAK +DCG .
eg : in the SAS MEGA PATCH page it's stated that is useless to upgrade to MEGAPATCH install if you already have IL2 4.12.2m

VP Modpack is installed onto a clean 4.12.2 install.
You state that your Steam version is already 4.12.2, so therefore you do not need the SAS Megapatch.
SAS Megapatch is for those who have earlier or later versions of the game.

You do NOT need to install DCG 'into' your game.  No JSGME or anything else required for DCG.  It is a standalone app outside of the game but you do need to point it at your game directory.
Install DCG to your desktop or where ever you want then open it.  Under Files you will see "DCG Program location" and "Game Program Location" use those to let DCG know where it is and where IL2 is.  That's it.

thanx for all of  your quick replies ,now i have running Vp MODPAK ,incredible way of improving IL2 even on my cheap and completely obsolete gear  ,,haha still need to apply patches before installing DCG but at least i know it's OK,i know DCG it's astandalone but not quite shure about the VP MODPAK / DCG compatibility MOD and files and I thought it should be installed inside JSGME
