I've made the sight's reflector plate edge more smoothly rounded, and rounded the mounting clamp ends (the 'ears' the bolts pass through). I've also decided to lower the opacity of the armored glass texturing, as suggested in an earlier post.

I expect to issue an update fairly soon (which will include the tweaks to the gyro compass and artificial horizon)...

And before hitting the hay I added to the lower gun sight mesh the requisite bits to enable the night texture which illuminates the distance and wingspan scales. And of course the cockpit class has the night texture name specified.

Hi Glenn and all, There’s something that really puzzles me and that is the thickness of the mounting of the spitfire cockpit. Considering the prospective from the pilots eyes it seems to me that he should see something more sharp and thin. Would you agree or mine is just a stupid remark? 😀😀

I was watching that thread, which seems to be ages ago. It didn't have me at a fever pitch of excitement only because my interest lies rather more strongly in the first half of the war. And Lord knows there's more than enough things to fix for that period to keep a guy busy for the rest of his grizzled, gruff, grumpy, grey-haired days (I'm 61.)  😀

Which mounting?

I suppose that he is talking about the armored glass frame that seems to be rather thick

Sorry for not being very clear what I mean is the top  part of the canopy. It seems to me that once the canopy is closed the perspective from the pilot view should see a rather thinner canopy frame.

Ah yes, the canopy framing. As I mentioned earlier, the canopy frame is an area I fully realize is in need of work, including the armored glass support. The usual treatment for most planes has always leaned toward making the framing too wide and or thick.

Furthermore, the model here appears to be based on the later Malcolm hood, with the fully bulging perspex on the sliding canopy. Ideally we should have the more cylindrical profile, and with the port side cut-out.

I did warn that the project pile I have on the go may not permit to jump on these canopy fixes. We'll see...

I did feel it was worth the effort to refine the sight, as it will go into such cockpits as the Hawk 75, B-339 and Hurricane I

Let me make such more observations of mine (this is not a criticism ;)), which I hope will be helpful in the development of your improvements.
Artificial horizon
============
I've given the horizon bar the early Sperry type, which is a double line. I also lengthened it so as to fill the aperture. And I've aligned it better. I'm debating painting the matching horizontal reference fiducials, which look like a letter 'C' on the left and its mirrored reverse 'C' on the right. When the plane is level and horizontal, the bar's lines align with these markings so as to form a completed 'racetrack'.

Conspicuously missing is the bank angle caret! This is a small lozenge-shaped indicator which rotates about the perimeter of the circular aperture as the plane banks, the angle being read from the numerical fiducials. I don't know if I'll get around to adding one...
I do not know if my information is correct, but I think you mean the use of Artificial Horizon, as in Hurricane - type MK I. According to me, the currently used "AH" - type MK IB did not have double lines, but it may need other minor adjustments, such as a transparent opening in the middle, through which you can also see a single line.

Update #1, released Nov 30, 2023. Go to the top post to download the full, updated archive again. The updated readme file contents reproduced there lists the new changes.

Brother B.'s post inspired me to reject my notion of the artificial horizon's double-lined horizon bar, although I did make the (single-lined) bar a tiny bit thinner. I also made some gauge face changes:
- Shaped the cut-out support post for the reference 'wings'.
- Added the central hole through which the bar can be seen when the longitudinal axis is horizontal.
- Shaped the two horizontal fiducial markings.

And yes, this sight here is an improvement upon my earlier sight mod for the Hurri, Buffalo and Spit I. This mod supersedes that for the Spit I included there.
