Bf-109E-1 crashing the FMB
« on: December 10, 2023, 12:13:58 PM »

Today while I as tweaking a mission in UP2-FMB I had the well known freeze when trying to display the 109E1 in plane view. It come as a surprise as I had used the fix for both the early 109 and using the 109E1-E3 upgrade for UP2 :( however the log was very clear

INTERNAL ERROR: VertexData: Data in in section [Vertices_Frame0] are corrupted (v:4)
WARNING: object '3DO/Plane/Bf-109E-1/WingRMid_D0.msh' of class 'SkinTL' not loaded
INTERNAL ERROR: MeshObj: Can't load mesh 3DO/Plane/Bf-109E-1/WingRMid_D0.msh.

this error will show up only in FMB as in QMB and normal missions you can still fly the plane without glitches.

the file in question is dated 4/4/2014 while the rest of the plane is on average from 2010 meaning that this specific file was upgraded and supposedly improved. Does anybody have a solution for this?

Thank you

The what?
I have just kicked up my old UP2 for a cross-check and couldn't see any issues.
Where do these mods that you are referring to stem from?

Ok Mike let me just provide some background. Initially the E1 and E3 had some meshes problems that would crash FMB (Similar FMB crashes where also happening for all the early 109 B,C and D series) and had a wrong cockpit (derived from the E4) so in the good old days of AAA there was a fix from CanonUK correcting the canopy and fixing the FMB crashes.  This fix was further developed in an upgrade for UP2 and 409 modact. I managed to track the original download from Epervier (source impeccable) below the readme

Code: [Select]
version 1.1
- new 3D cockpits for E1/E3 by Muas
- new wheels, engine, prop by PA_Jeronimo
- fix CF, Keel, Tail, Wing by ?
- Opening/closing int/ext of canopies for all aircraft
- Change racks bombs (ETC-500/IXb - ETC-50/VIIId)
- Open canopy in ground mission (player + AI)
- AI opened his canopy to the end of the mission in the parking lot after the engine cut

Epervier

It worked fine until yesterday when I had an FMB crash with the hier.msh error message. For the time being I just replaced the faulty mesh WingRmid_D0 hoping that is just a corrupted file.

Eperviers Method was using older Ressources, before the better FredFRed Cockpits became availlable.

Yeah, complicated.

Yes I know I also have F_Red E3 cockpit mod but I think that Epervier was considering F_Red remarks on the use  of his mods without specific authorization. In fact F_Red was so upset that he stopped modding altogether.

I still don't get what you did.
I'm using untouched "vanilla" Ultrapack 2 and don't have any such issues.
Therefore my understanding is that you have some mod installed on top of Ultrapack 2 and that mod triggers the issue.
Question: Which mod? Why? Where would I get the mod?

indeed the issue is triggered by an 109 E1 and E3 upgrade pack released by Epervier. Basically the mod included some refinements of the cockpits and also improvements to the plane 3D. In my previous post I have included the readme from the pack providing more details. The link to the mod is in Tobi reply#4. Thanks

Ah yes, I see.
Interesting files.
I've stumbled upon 3D meshes which have been converted to "binary" format with some unknown converter once.
To me, the only tool to create binary meshes is in the hands of TD, but apparently someone else tried to create one too, and it's bull.

The 3D files of this mod are bull.
In particular, the Mid wing meshes (left and right) are bull (WingLMid_D0.msh and WingRMid_D0.msh).
They contain vertice blocks like these:

See the repeating numbers? Right, they're wrong :D
Someone bored to death could try to manually tinker with the text-converted meshes, but to be honest it doesn't make much sense.

Fun fact: Even though the 3D meshes are rubbish, my UP2 doesn't complain about them. Which makes sense. Even a "wrong" 3D file can still load well, whether it makes sense or not.

I was right: the UP 2.01 pack is the coolest on the planet!
It'll take anything you give it... even shit!  :D   :D   :D   :P

In fact it is long time that I have it and never gave me problems then suddenly the other day it froze my fmb due to the bad vertices of the midrwing. But without doing anything it started working again.
