0xc0000005 error when playing the game
« on: March 02, 2024, 12:11:56 AM »

Sorry if this is the wrong spot. I am new here. I'm trying to play this game but it crashes a few minutes into any mission. I'm playing version 4.13.4 with no mods on Windows 10. Also tried both Steam and GOG versions.  I've enabled logging in-game but it doesn't show anything besides successful loading of all the sub-programs (nothing matching the timestamp of the crash).  However, Windows Event Viewer gives me the following:
Faulting application name: il2fb.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x44fd7bbb
Faulting module name: jvm.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x3af53001
Exception code: 0xc0000005

I've tried the following:
Set DEP to Essential Windows programs and services only.
Completely disabled DEP from the command prompt
Temporarily disabled my antivirus software while playing
Reinstalled/ repaired the game. Also tried downgrading to version 4.12.2. No luck.
Has anyone else encountered this error and been able to fix it?

First thing first, is ypur game in c/program folder? If so try moving it anywhere wlse on your disc(s). Try again and see what happens. Just cut and past the whole IL2 folder.

Thank you very much for the tip. I will give this a try.

Alas, the game still starts to stutter out and crash after a few minutes, though I don't get anything in the event viewer anymore :(

Are you sure you're reading the correct log file? The correct log file is called "log" or "log.lst". The log file that many new users mistake for this file is called "initlog" or "initlog.lst". It's important not to get these confused: log.lst is (usually) useful, initlog.lst is (almost) useless.
