Ultra Pack campaign To BAT campaign
« on: March 03, 2024, 11:27:46 AM »

Good day everyone!  How are you all enjoying the show "Master's of the Air"?  Anyway, I found a campaign mission from Mission4Today called "Big Bird", but it was made for Ultrapack.  Is this playable in BAT?  Is this a matter of drag and drop in the folders?  Thanks in advance.

The question "does it work" when it comes to missions and campaigns has but one answer:

try and see for yourself!

Seriously, try it. If you run into issues, you'll know it doesn't work. If you don't, you'll know it does.

There's no threat to your game doing this, either, because missions and campaigns can't cause game crashes or unusual behavior simply by being installed onto your game.

Also, if it doesn´t work you´ll get a log.lst that will tell you what happened, where in the game and when. With that info you can turn to this site for help or maybe fioure it out yourself. More often than not it is only minor hickups but if it seems overwhelming to you here is a friendly bunch of ppl who can steer you to solutions!

And you can always fix it yourself or write a program, batch file, powershell/python script to do mass text substitution.

Unlike IL-2 COD or IL-2 BOS which have complex mission scripts, the IL-2 Classic format is really easy to understand.  COD actually has some interesting features that allows some customization through C/Java like scripts, routines in the mission itself.  BOS on the other hand has a more challenging almost crypto-like, almost license-based key that makes creating missions a more controlled, and challenging proposition unless you use the GUI.

Most of UP is compatible with BAT, just some differences.

The most common critical errors that you can find is different planes, that is some planes that are in UP and not in BAT and different loadouts (this is more common). You may also miss some objects but normally these are not critical errors unless the objects is a special one like the target for the mission or other special purposes.

Finally there is a tool that can help you in adapting the campaign  is called the Campaign Validator and you can find it here

Yes indeed, you can try using that. In the moment I was going to link that campaign validator program, SAS notified me regarding a new reply that was posted here which is Frankiek one's, either way, you could try using the Campaign Validator for the Big Bird campaign and report back to us.  ;)

If it stay long in the prompt window means that the programme found some errors so is not able to provide you with the proper report. The file is called CampaignAnalyzerOutput.txt and inside you will find just the mention of the error. When everything works the prompt window disappears very quickly and you will have a juicy report that tells you mission by mission planes used, skins, objects, chiefs and if there are problems it will be mentioned.

Big Bird campaign is playable in BAT without any intervention.  I just tried launching first before tackling the suggestions.

The validator I use too, ver usefull.

Statics (Validator),
manually I do check up this: chiefs, air, weapons entries do reside correctly.

i.e. I like to correct old standin a/c for real ones we have.
Or when a Mission uses a strange setup (Loadout), where I do
have better data on the actual Mission.
