Mr. Resistance, you do realise that this Flight simulation is a few years older than you do you?  :)
It is only due to the dedication and skill of the talented Modders, mission and campaign builders in this community that you are (hopefully) enjoying this Sim today.

As to your comment in the 'Chat Room' "I get the feeling that most of the people on this site are old people (No offence)" this is true of a Sim first marketed in 2000, (I still have my original demo disc collected from a flight sim exhibition in Birmingham England) and genre that has been around since the late 1990's for online play. You have of course missed the peak of it's popularity in the mid-2k's when one would sit waiting for a vacant slot of 1000 places available on Hyperlobby. Low numbers I know compared to those seen on War Thunder and the 'World of' series.
Our oldest squadron member (Chuffy's Flying Circus) was still 'flying' with us in his 90's. He had flown F-86's in the 1950's and many of our members had been or were active pilots, both civilian or military. In a previous virtual Squadron playing 'European Air War' previous to IL2 we even had a chap who had flown P-38s in the Pacific in 1945!
Sadly we are beginning to see the demise of members due to age and/or health problems here. 4, including the gentleman in his 90's I mention here, in the last year or so.

I've just turned 74, not 'flying' at present as I occupy myself sitting on the bench of my Worcestershire village green with m'dogs, plucking at sleeves of passers by and screeching: "I'm the oldest resident y'know! Still got all me own teeth!"

........Now, what did I come in here for?

I realised I was getting elderly when I overheard my youngest daughter describe me as 'Spritely!"
A year or so ago, I was side-swiped from a side road and spun backwards into a ditch on a dark and rainy night. The car was a right-off but I was unhurt. What hurt was some concerned motorists peering through the windscreen illuminated by my headlights exclaiming: "it's a really old geezer! Better call an ambulance!" I have the record of this for posterity saved from my dashcam that amuses my 4 offspring greatly.
66? You are just a whippersnapper!

Actually, the image quality is not the problem.

The problem is the game has been around for so long now that image technology has surpassed the capabilities of the game.

Now you are used to seeing the latest 4k Ultra OLED 65" screens showing you every hair and pimple on someone's face, and the people behind them, and we are on the verge of everyone in the world using virtual reality headsets.

With high resolutions now 1 pixel now is a lot smaller than 1 pixel 15 or 20 years ago.

Unfortunately no one is is the business of making complex games you can buy and own anymore.  So its up to a few small producers to do anything.  Maybe AI can do it in the future.

If a total copy of IL-2 was made to the level of DCS, where you can go full real or arcade with mission building capabilites, then that game would exist until the end of PC games and/or time itself.

In fact, it's almost the same age as me.

I am Japanese.
Use Google Translate.

I'm over 70 years old, and it's getting harder and harder to spot enemy aircraft.

Are you playing the original version of this game, or are you playing the game with some kind of mod?
