Speaking about gyro gunsights... I didn't use them for a long time. But I remember that I always struggled to use them successfully, especially in the chaotic dogfights.
That's only to be expected, early gyrosights were not really suited for dogfights.
The reaction time of gyroscopes was too sluggish to give a useful fire solution during energetic maneuvering as gyroscopes had to settle down a bit. Not only that, the correct range setting is very important to obtain correct fire solution, and you won't be adjusting your range all the time during dogfight. This was solved only after the war when radar rangefinder was paired with gyrosight.
WWII era gyros are best used against less maneuverable targets like bombers.
For example, we set up the gun convergence at 400 meters. Then we dial up the same 400m in gunsight and select the target winsgpan. Let's say we go at target from above - we dive down at a constant angle, keeping the gyro mark on target. When target's wings fill the mark, telling us that the range is good - we open fire
