Adapting Fred cockpits for the Bf-109 G series
« on: June 05, 2024, 11:00:33 AM »

EDIT 29/08/2024

In collaboration with Mick and the essential contribution of Dimas at Aviaskins  I am attempting to port the Bf-109  cockpits originally conceived by Fred (Histomod), and currently in use in IES, to other Il-2 versions.

The first one that I manage to complete is the G-2

I have tested the cockpit in BAT-WAW, UP3.4, 4.12 Modact 5.3, UP2.01, and 4.10 Modact.

in order to use with 4.09/4.10 version you will need to use the classes included in the classes 409 folder

https://www.mediafire.com/file/qelptgdz6jowsp0/02__Bf-109G-2_Cockpit.7z/file

If you have the preliminary download I would recommend to delete that folder and use the new one.

I would like to say that I have been just assembling and extending work that has been done by many modders:
F-red to start with for the initial idea and original cockpit development then the IES team that put together an excellent IL-2 version and continued the development. Dimas1999 that at Aviaskins released a complete Bf-109 package that includes most of the improvements and ported the cockpit classes.

On my side I just wonted to have cockpits that can be used independently and across different versions without having to install a full pack. In order to achieve this I had to take out or tone down some version/mod specific features. This work is taking time but I hope that many will enjoy and as usual everybody is free to modify/adapt/improve as they see fit.

EDIT 31\08\24
Please find attached the files needed to be able to use the upgraded G-2 cockpit also with the Bf-109G-1 and G-3

Just d/l'd this minute, not looked at yet.

If I can squeeze in some time, adding a correct circular reticle mask, dynamic collimator lens reflection and armored glass tint would be a few of the bits I could add. Perhaps an impact texture appropriate to armored glass could be thrown in. And if the windscreen and sight reflector plate have an undue specularity, that would be desirable to fix, too. The sun shade in the retracted position looks suspiciously low (if present); normally the top edge is seen in part.

Thanks for making this available!

As mentioned what you are seeing is not the full cockpit potentiality due to my low end java coding skills. In the screenie I am using the standard UP2 109G-2 cockpit classes and I am sure that there is an iced glass effect still showing and I had to bar out from the hier.him references to meshes with bullet impact on armored glass, blood stains and ice as these meshes and relevant textures being controlled in the class file were permanently showing.  I think I set mission time at 15 (on Crimea map) in order to understand better the transparencies and sun glare effects. I also used the larger view to illustrate more the instrument panel. In any case even with these limitations it is a very nice cockpit to use

Hope you are making progress with these cockpits as they look great!....any updates on this project?
I and others appreciate your efforts keeping this classic sim going nearly a quarter of a century after it was first developed (can you believe that!!).
You say this cockpit can be used (with some minor issues maybe), could you explain exactly how the download you supplied is installed (BAT 4.2.3 currently).
I have only used JSGME to add mods in the past....but I am interested to see how the pit looks "in game" if possible.
Thanks if any advice is given.....I do not check the forum everyday so a response back from myself might be delayed.
                                        Keep up the good work.

I am still working on it to try to keep many of the cockpit functions this is not an easy task considering my limited capacities in java programming
