Yes, they were released commercially.

They are expansion packs - mostly campaigns and single mission options, usually in one area theatre - and often with extra skins.
As they were sold commercially (unlike the SAS licensing) there is still active copyright

It is a shame that Eastern Thunder, Operation Barbarossa, The Last Days, Osteroy, Battle Over Europe are bound by commercial limitations as those are also part of the legacy/heritage of IL-2.  I had fun with them.
Barbarossa, The Last Days and Battle Over Europe are part of the files I'm uploading (they reside in the mods "Addons" subfolder), together with a couple more addons.
What is "Eastern Thunder"?
"Osteroy" looks like a typo to me. Ostfront maybe? That'd also be part of the uploaded set.

Eastern Thunder was a buyable cd add on for the original Il2 Sturmovik. It was issued by Just Flight in 2002 for Windows 95 up to Windows XP.

....and on a little side note - I just had a closer look images of the "monks" and come to the conclusion that there is something we should know about the radition levels in their area. Check the hands !  :o

Hang on, I’ve just been having a blathering with this gen AI recently and, no matter what I tried, it wouldn’t compute me designs for airliner cabins with less than four seats on each side of the aisle. He simply refused to cooperate, just like you cannot get tea from a chocolate teapot.

Oh, and here I should mention that right next to the window seats there was typically a person interpreting the concept of ‘window seat’ rather literally and sitting inside the windows! This is enough to make a cat laugh to scorn!

An Update;

Hello! It has been a little bit! Since I last posted an update, lots has happened! Quite a few people have volunteered and donated their collections towards the project. We are still busy collecting and curating it all, however early estimates leads us to the conclusion that we have over 130 THOUSAND SKINS uploaded. 50% of these are easily accessible, whilst the other 50% of these are rare finds from old sites! We have now stored 910 GB of data on the project. I hope in the next update we will see lots of campaigns/missions being found, as those collections still need to be uploaded. I also hope to have proper metrics on what was new/undiscovered and what was readily available!

If you are new and reading this and have a collection to offer, do not hesitate to contact me!

Massive thanks to:
Bogustogus
FL2070
Matz
Mike
Ta183Huckebein

for uploading there collections! Many other users have verbally confirmed their intentions to do so as well.

Mike, we had spoken about moving this somewhere?

Will update soon, cheers,

An update video:

It introduces the project, as well as goes over what we have so far as of Aug 19th 2024. There are timestamps to save time.

Still looking for more people to upload!

Quote from: Beebop at M4T
3rd Party Add Ons:

Aces Campaigns
Combat Over Europe
(not to be confused with)
Battle Over Europe
Operation Overlord aka Desasterfront
Operation Barbarossa
Operation Fall Blau
OstFront
The Last Days
Rebirth of Honor
Wings Over Citadel
Wings Over Waves
Wings Over Jungles
Banzai

Official Addons that became integrated into the stock game:

Sturmoviks Over Manchuria
Pe-2 Peshka
46

That's all I can remember. I remember playing Fall Blau, Ostfront, Citadel, Banzail and the Wings Over series. They were a big upgrade from the stock campaigns. More objects and more objectives.
Interest in them waned as the Community learned the FMB and began making missions as good as and often better than those early releases.

There is more information regarding these addons and who published them at SimHQ.
