A question about "FMB"
« on: June 22, 2024, 07:25:18 PM »

Hello.

In the setting of "FMB", for example, if there is a "3 vs. 3" air battle, is it possible to set it so that after 3 minutes, both sides stop the air battle and return to their bases?

I'm Japanese, and I think I'm playing the game without understanding the English settings.

No.  Not today.  Using translation is hard, so I can try to help you.

In IL-2 the planes will try to fight until they cannot anymore.  If you want planes to return after a set time, you would need to tell them to return home using Tab and the menu options.

It's not possible.

それは不可能です。

Thank you everyone.

I wanted to recreate the scene where you travel for a long time, find your opponent, and then fight for a few minutes before retreating.

If you need planes stop combat after a certain time, only way I know and sometimes use is limit amount of fuel so, that plane return to base after this time. It takes many attempts to achieve desired result… Good luck  :)

The fuel way is the only way.

Make sure every AI flight has a landing set to an airfield. You can't time it exactly on the minute but you can limit the engagement time significantly.

I think, your own flight will might stay with you until they are dry. Only AI controlled flights will break and return.

Thank you everyone.

"Amount of fuel"?... I'll have to try that.
It'll probably take some time to get it right, but I'll give it a try.

Thanks everyone for your cooperation.

This is an old problem.
Perhaps our resident brains might be able to (just spitballin' here )
add a new Waypoint Type or perhaps Trigger Type if feasible called
RTB.
The most logical way to do this would be by either volume of fuel or even better ,
Flight Time (remaining ). Not so simple because as we know fuel consumption varies
according to power settings and some other factors (Engine size ; Cylinder size ;
fuel octane levels etc ).

Anyhow , I know it is not a simple problem. But it is a problem worthy of consideration.

RTB trigger or something like that could help a lot.
I noticed this issue, especially in JTW: jets drop their ordnance and continue to climb over the place they bombed higher and higher, up to 5-6km. Inviting all SAMs in the area to shoot at them and destroying the purpose of a carefully planned mission.  :(

Just occurred to me that a more general "Trigger Type" could be
"Break Off" , and thus need not solely be connected to fuel state.
