Fuel Load Mod?
« on: June 29, 2024, 08:44:49 AM »

Lot of fuel loads are not reallistic giving extreme ranges.

Is there a "fuel load" mod?

different versions have more realistic FM in terms of performance including fuel consumption. So Flight Models is where you want to focus your attention. Normally IES, UP3.4 tend to have more accurate FM however I never really checked fuel consumption as  I don't like to fly for more than an hour max two. I actually hate to fly for an hour and then in ten seconds I am dead meat.

Thats cool thanks!

I thought the same before making missions.  Its nice to get tuned in to your plane while flying it full length.  Though once I get it into cruise and trimmed out I will either hit autopilot, or autolevel and time compress the rest of the way.

I also make a cutdown version, I like at least 5mins of flight time to "tune in" though.  With that I usually let the missions play on auto and just take notes on where the fuel is at certain points.  Also, have to co-ordinate this with IRL stats.

For instance the P-47C should have 29% less fuel than it does for its range to be accurate.

The fuel consumption though adds another level of immersion as you have to think about your "combat range" and time on target before you have to get the hell out.

The problem with a global fuel load/consumption mod is some planes have much too short range compared to book values.
Fuel consumption and engine overheat rates both use generic values for most engines!
In your P-47C thread they linked to a discussion explaining there are 4 fuel consumption values vs throttle settings in engine file.  Most planes use default values here, which is a very coarse way to do it,  but who wants to adjust 4 settings for the hundred engines in il2fb.
I do like the idea of having really well modelled player planes though.  Especially when it effects the mission like impossible P-47C to Berlin, or Me163 Komet flight time.
It should be possible to code auto-delete drop tanks on P-47 by date and theatre, but it may break old scenarios playability.
The easiest way would be to text edit your P-47C missions so they all have say fuel=71%

True, the ranges were different at different altitudes.  10,000ft gave the max range, but getting things in the ball park or reality was good enough given my level of frustration for the mission I was making.

Definitely could not have 1 person go through and edit all FMs in BAT... though maybe some core FMs.  The research alone would be a huge task.  I was just looking at the P-47C alone because of my mission.

But then you would have 1 FM of Bf-109 be accurate, but not as good as another.  UK, Japan, and Germany had several models of each aircraft leading to a lot more FM's that would have to be modified.

Such a crazy game we got into.
