A little while back I introduced a new object modeled on the layer forest, which can be used to cover areas where the forest is not reaching as far into areas as one would like. This first crack at it had the undersides of the 5 layers given textures, so that from ground level they would be seen (unlike the usual layered forest for which the undersides are not textured.)
After a test where I had placed them on top of another jungle forest object so as to yield a more uniform appearance from above, I found that having the undersides of the layers was not good. And so I made another version for which only the top surfaces of the 5 layers are textured. This is the one shown here.
In the two screenies below, at Barakoma airstrip on my modded New Georgia map by agracier, you can see how the addition of the layered forest object onto the other jungle blocks makes for a better blending as seen from above. (The original map has MANY palm trees covering the area where I've replaced them with jungle forest blocks.) The second image shows a part of the scene from ground level, showing how the jungle forest blocks make for effective 'channels' cut through the forest for the taxiways. And in spite of the layered forest objects frequently 'spilling' past the edges of the forest block objects, no jarring layered forest undersides are seen floating in the air.
For filling smaller areas I plan to make a half-size version. In the aerial view you can see some areas where the forest blocks have not been covered due to the current layered object being a bit too large.
