Hello there!

I have a question/issue with my joystick.
When I activate force feedback, it’s constantly pulling backwards the stick, and there’s no reaction/change with different trim settings. The axis all work perfectly and the overall response is great but the Force Feedback is not really giving the proper feedback.
I’ve talked to the manufacturer and they say the game isn’t providing telemetry data for the FFB device but seeing there’s a FFB option and a force feedback folder, I wonder if it’s just a software disconnection between IL2 1946 and the device software.
Does anyone have any idea on the FDB coding in IL2, so we can provide some additional data to the manufacturer and they update their software to be compatible?

Il-2 FFB was  working very well with the old MS Sidewinder FFB2

Thanks for the reply. Are you from SAS Team? Do you know anyone who specifically knows about the ffb? My stick works fine on newer games, but it doesn’t detect any telemetry data from 1946. I would really hope I could find someone who knew a bit more about this topic. I can still play the game fine, but I think it would hr a lot nicer if I could get the ffb working on the stick.
I did try with an old saitek cyborg evo ffb and it does seem to react normally to the trim and ffb, so it must definitely be some disconnection on the software side.

I checked that thread and doesn’t seem to be any of it, my stick is properly powered, the game is in a unprotected folder, the config file and switch in input are all correct and I do get some feedback - it just pulls constantly backwards as if the airplane wants to nose dive but it does that react to trim at all. Also it seems to only add force to pitch, not roll.

By the way, I have a FFBeast [ https://ffbeast.github.io/ ] which is really a beast of a stick in both DCS and IL2 GB, just wish I could get it working in 1946 - by far, best stick I’ve owned.

Unfortunately my ffb joystick died in the early 2ks but from what you say it seems rather a calibration problem. Did you try to to reset to default and then calibrate the stick in windows?

Once your stick is calibrated launch Il-2 then go to the input setup screen and check your settings there.

On screen you can see immediately if there is a tendency to pitch.

Tried it, reset to default, calibrate at windows, check in game on control input and it all reads good (just as it did before). But as soon as I load into. Cockpit it pulls the stick back and keeps making force in that direction. The stick in cockpit moves fine when I move my stick, the calibration is fine. It’s really just the force feedback that pulls back. If I switch the force feedback off and back on (or if I alt tab out of game and back in), the force feedback totally disappears until I close and restart the game (stays just a normal stick with no force).

Will keep digging.

So I tried to uninstall the game and reinstall everything again back to BAT 4.2.3.
Some new behaviours developed:
- If I do an air start, start any mission already mid flight, the FFB is working perfectly, reacts to trim forces, etc. Until I land, or touch the ground in a touch and go, for as soon as I touch the ground, the full aft force returns and doesn’t go away. If I do a touch and go, the aft force pull remains even if I’m airborne. If I land it gets the full aft pull and a side to side periodic shake.
- During a ground start, the aft pull is present and doesn’t disappear after take off (same behaviour as before). I did try a mod that enables FFB again after an alt tab out of game window (before if I alt tab out of game the force feedback was gone until i restarted the game or sometimes the mission). And noticed that if I tabbed out prior to engine start, the aft pull was gone although I had a shake when I started the engine; the aft pull would then return after chocks off, at which point I could alt tab out and back in for it to be gone again; however that would remove the elevator and aileron forces completely, leaving only shakes and rumbles on gun shots and bomb drops; if I was to land again or do a touch and go, the aft pull would return.

Any ideas?
It does seem to be related to some ground Force Feedback effect - since when I start in the air, it’s working perfectly until the airplane touches the ground.
Is there anyway to turn off ground effects to see if that would be the cause?

Well, I definitely should try that to see if it has the same behaviour. How steep does the dive need to be?

Well I tried doing it and had to stutters, I tried several times to climb, point down, pull hard in all directions and never got a stutter.
I did discover that the SBD Dauntless has the same behaviour in flight as the F4U, F4F, F6F, etc have on the ground - stick always pulling back and not reacting to pitch forces.
I talked to the developers of the my joystick FFB and they said they would have a look at it and they believe to be related to the order of the FFB packages.
