reduce a map already started
« on: September 04, 2024, 02:34:18 PM »

Hello,
I’m working on a card started by another member, it’s functional but I find it much too big ( I would like to divide its size by two. ) I would like to delete the southern part of the area which has no great interest and whose only region of interest has already been created.

I still have the roads and railways to place but is there a way to reduce it without having to start from scratch ( since downloading files via Microdem? )

Would anyone have an idea ?

Fred.

Hi Fred!

Interesting project. :)

IS the map already populated (houses, airfields, ...) ?

I have only placed aerodromes; I wait for the last moment to fill the cities.

It is possible!

I managed to cut out the island of Gotland from my BalticSea map (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=72324.msg787412#msg787412)
and create a new map with it.
I also - and that's the important part - managed to copy the heights and textures, map_f and navigation/briefing map!

It all fits like a charm!!
So I could create a perfect copy of a special sector of a greater map as a small map.

G'day Seppel

That's great to hear.
I've been thinking of creating a smaller quicker loading version of the Green Hell map.
It would include the important airfields at Port Moresby, Lae and Buna.

Hi Seppel

If you could do some instructions or better still add to your map making booklet that would great.
There are a number of nicely textured and populated maps (large) that could be made into smaller ones.
Green Hell 1943, Ambon Darwin and Coral Sea and Solomon Sea for example.

Hi guys!

According to Reuters idea and question, I did a lot of research and testing the last days.

Now I am able to proudly present to you a

"Handbook for map reduction"
https://www.mediafire.com/file/9thg291lq8y83gn/map+reduction.7z/file

It explains (so I hope) how to cut out a special area from a larger map and generate a new one.
Please let me now, if you find it useful or maybe where I could not make myself clear.

The handbook comes in German and English language.

best regards,
Seppel

PS.: There was a little waste product :-) see here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=73083.msg794801#msg794801    ....
