How to host multiplayer missions?
« on: September 07, 2024, 08:35:04 AM »

Hello,

I've made a few missions in the past that i'd love to play with my mates, but I have no idea how to host custom missions or if it's even possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!   :)

First , download and install a little freeware software named " Hyperlobby " .
https://hyperfighter.sk/download-file-20.html

Ask also to your mates to install it .
Everybody has to show to Hyperlobby the path to the il2 game folder .
So you will all be able to slot toghether on Hyperlobby
https://hyperfighter.sk/content-8.html

Then one of you can launch a mission and the other players will be able to join the mission ( important :  everybody must have the same version of the game ).

Additionnally , the player who hosts a mission has to set his firewall parameters ( both on Windows and on his router ) to allow the game to communicate on the internet .

Everybody must have the same version of the game AND
it is very important that no-one has any extra mods added , or everyone has EXACTLY
the same mods added IN THE SAME ORDER.

IL-2 1946 is fully capable of handling multiplayer between players with different mods. The caveat is that those mods can't directly affect the gameplay. If it's something like an effects mod, a sound mod, a map texture mod, a different cockpit 3D, etc, it will usually be fine, with a few rare exceptions.

On average, the average average averages, averagely, the average average of all averages.

What FL2070 says is true , however for someone just starting out , and until someone
comes up with a comprehensive matrix of which mods work together and which ones don't for easy
understanding - which I doubt will ever by compiled , it is much more practical to ensure mods used are the same
for online play.
Years of experience has shown me that people will stick to their favourite mods without disclosing that they have
chosen to ignore this guidance and much more often than not issues will arise.

Gabe you can and should  , of course , choose how you and your friends choose to do this as you wish.

And of course, some game variants are better suited for online play than others...

Gabe;
you don't necessarily need Hyperlobby.  It is possible to host and play at the same time via the game itself (I do it all the time with our group).
If you are just looking at a few mates getting together to play coop or dogfight at a scheduled time then any one of you can play host.  That said, what Draken said about the firewalls still applies.

I'll try to find a previous link that spells out the process for hosting.
