Wind use in FMB
« on: September 11, 2024, 07:59:45 PM »

Dunno where to post a noob question

I never used the Wind asset in FMB, wanna give it a spank in Carrier missions...
My trouble, the usual Tuorials about FMB, place and BlaBla. Very dry stuff, I get asthma in my brain.

I still do not understand or visualize. Can somebody please unfold. There's this 0° - BlaBla,
a showcase of direction would be nice, sth. definite with an arrow for handicapped like me
Easy language or how they say

Thanks in advance Gentlemen

The wind direction is the compass azimuth FROM which the wind blows.

We know the cardinal directions for N, E, W and S as 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees, respectively. When you face north your gaze is toward 0 degrees. If under that circumstance the wind is blowing straight into your face, the wind direction is 0 degrees. Similarly, when facing due east and with the wind coming straight at you, the wind direction is 90 degrees.

For carrier takeoff/landing, set the wind direction to be THE SAME as the ship's heading. That's easy to remember. ;)

I tried to visualize your explanation here on 90° Object direction with wind at 90° too
Can you confirm the direction markers?

yes, correct.

By the way, the compass ring has the nice German name "Windrose" for that reason :)

Didn't knew that.  :(

Not knowing such I thought the wind uses the same direction, all FMB Tutorials, 1C manuals couldn't explain,
left me with guessing. Which was all the way wrong.
my flumsy brain, english not mothertongue and the explanation not easy lang.
Plus not knowing a Windrose. It can't be worser.

Best wishes
