G8N1 own slot - WIP
« on: September 15, 2024, 03:59:08 AM »

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,72977.0.html

Here's the beta version of the G8N1 in its own slot. Please test:
*new beta version 18 Sept. 24 v.07 Please delete old version and replace with this.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/3l7qr0cg4kcdm0m/%2521_G8N1_beta_v0.7.zip/file

All classfiles in unhashed format only for the Beta.

Frankiek provided hashed classes for those who might need them in old modpacks.

Changelog
v0.7: new improved FM, more loadouts, better defense fire areas (fixes)

v0.5 first time new slot

The G8N1 was to be the initial production variant and the prototypes were basically this variant too, so I decided to go that way with the slot name.

The gunnery gave me a headache or two. There was strange code in the classes and I was trying a lot to get the side gunners to do their job but I think this version is satisfactory? At least superficially for a start. Not sure if all is 100% but it does the job as you can see in the image.... If you wisecrack about it, I'll call you out on it and will ask for a better version ;)

The performance data I took off the web, so it's all G8N1 prototype data. It comes with the Homare engines and is capable of ~590km/h TAS @ 8000m. But that is absolute tops, into fast overheating. Sustainable is about ~560 km/h which is still hella fast.

The loadouts consist of 60, 100, 250, 500, 600 and 800kg J bombs in various setups.  1000kg is a "normal" load, the heaviest is 4x 500kg. The performance will be limited and AI will take every inch of runway with that. You can always trade fuel and range though.
I also added a pair of Type 91 late torps.

This slot comes with an adapted cockpit I stole from the Betty. It fits the shape and size quite well. I also made the bombardier cockpit work. Default skin is resized to 1K, but the 2K and 4K skins are in the package.

However, this slot has no gunner stations. I won't do such cockpits for lack of interest and time. All I need is a flightstick and a bomb sight. So if you want to create them, feel invited!

This beta comes with all unhashed classes, as it is a WIP. If your game can for some reason not digest that, sorry about that.

G8N2 was, for all the info I could find, the name of the proposed version which could carry an Ohka (which comes at something over 2 tons). That would mean: Special bomb bay fitting, no bombs possible, no bomb bay doors, and also different engines.

I reserve doing that and the modified Ohka on another day maybe. The Ohka would need special code to pair with a new slot.
One thing at a time.

I don't take any credit for "looks", just for the workings :)

Working on heavier loadouts and further refinement of the gunnery.

I'm not sure what the role of GearC6 to C8 is.

If these have to exist, I think it should stay 'Hidden'.

PS : Shouldn't the plane folder name be 'G8N1' ?

Shouldn't 'G8N2' be left behind to make a model for Ohka transport later ??

Thank you.

My 3 cents on the project - improved flame and wheel hooks.

Thank you very much, Vampire _pilot, I need to do more tests but initially I can say that Rita works very well in my Vp modpack,
and what I really like about airplanes, she is not an easy object to shoot down :P.

3 20mm twin cannon turrets plus waist gunners and 560 kmh speed don't approach from behind

I had more in mind the sensitivity to damage from the firing of an attacking aircraft, but on this point you are absolutely right.

And improved gunnery on the way. I found something in 3d.

And thanks, Kelso!

Thanks for this new slot Vampire_pilot! :D

It's a four-engine plane that flies wonderfully! ;)
