Gas/oil platforms and rigs
« on: September 26, 2024, 01:31:59 PM »

My attempts to create something resembling a real-life gas or oil rig/platform.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/awww9rqe6likzk2/Platforms_Rigs.zip/file
Download, unzip and open in FMB.

West of the central island:
8 rigs/platforms of different size and complexity.
East of the central island:
As the honourable mention, one rig that was borrowed from the Vampire_pilot's Iran-Iraq campaign.
40 objects that are the most suitable, in my opinion, for the rig's construction.

I hope this template can be useful for the community. Feel free to use it in your missions or modify and make those rigs better.

Well done mate!

I did search online for a suitable model to import into our sim.
The simplest I found was still 45,000 polys.
Looking at it we have everything ingame to make this.
The catch is, many objects will need to be raised.

Hi Gerald

Haven't heard from you in awhile, what happened to your spectacular projects?
I would love to see an update as I always enjoyed seeing your fantastic screenshots.

Is it possible for you to share your creations?

Thank you.
Yes, it's a pity we can not raise those objects. There would be many of interesting combinations.

Hi Dimlee

Static objects can be raised or lowered by altering their static entry.
It's not an object I need, as I'm mostly interested in WW2.
However I do enjoy building things in the FMB, especially if they can be used by others.
Might even 3d model the main structure, it's only a series of boxes and cylinders.

Wouldn't it be better to save them as static ships?

That is a great idea, particularly if we can use them as "carriers".  For example, using them as helicopter pads of sorts... as in real life.

Dimlee,

Would be great to incorporate them as dioramas as well...  possibly each should be done separately, and now that I think about it, they should be facing the default east direction.

Great minds think alike!
I planned this already. When I sit again at my desktop. Two weeks, for sure.  ;)
