Map Editor refuses to work suddenly
« on: October 31, 2024, 06:44:40 AM »

Hello!

I was not sure where to post this, as I am not able to create threads in maybe better sub forums...

Help please!

I have a standard Map Editor, basing on HSFX 6.0.1.
I worked with that for some weeks, to create the ColdWar version of my BaltiSea map.

Suddenly I am not able to open some of my BaltiCSea WIPactors files. It concerns the files with the settlements, f.e. in Germany and Denmark.
F.e. the eastern part of Germany can be loaded, but the western part does not.
First I thought, it may be a matter of the file sizes, but they are the same files as for the WW2 version of this map.
Now I can't open them, I can obviously not depart them with the Actors Management tool to make them smaller AND I can not merge them and load them into the game!

I wanted to try to open them in an BAT based Map Editor, but:
I have a BAT 4.2.3 version which I used to turn into a Map Editor once a while.
Now, with no recognizable reason it does not work anymore.
After changing the entries in the bldconf and conf the program launches, but when I try to open a map, it crashes!
If I change back to the normal mode, all maps could be loaded (except for ColdWar BalticSea with the certain actors files)

I had the same problem month ago, as suddenly the Map Editor back up won't launch.
I was trying to generate a new one, but it didn't work.

It seems, that suddenly everything is broken.

I am totaly lost. And so is my ColdWar project, as I do not need to build any more airfields if I could not create a final _actors file lateron.

For me, this only happens when the actors is too big, has too many objects.
There are many maps that will not open/crash when trying Map Builder Mode for that reason in my experience.

try opening a really small old stock map. Does it open? Is it only super big maps that crash? Then I'd guess it is that issue.

Maybe you could have saved it one last time, but the next time you try to open it, it is too big now? I presume you only added objects?
Maybe try the actors editor (I forgot the name... Zuiti's actors tool or something?)  to remove some elements again or split it up into manageable actors and merge it in the end?

I know - for me the same!

But the file with its size worked before while working on the WW2 map version.

I also tryed the idea with the Actors Mnagement tool allready.
Did not work.

It is, as if the file is rotten suddenly.

I am reinstalling BAT at the moment, and see, if I can get this ME to work again.

And here is again the last problem with the Map Editor:

I have a clear version 4.12.2 (created with SAS MegaPatch)

I open the FMB and a map there and it is allright:

Then I change the bldconf.ini
Code: [Select]
[builder_plugins]
 (builder.PlMapLoad)
 (builder.PlMapActors,sectFile=com/maddox/il2/objects/static.ini)
 (builder.PlMapAirdrome)
 (builder.PlMapLabel)
 (builder.PlMapText)
[builder config]
 bShowGrid false
 bShowName false
 bViewRunaway true
 bShowTime false
 bShowArmy [3,true,true,true]
 iLightLand 255
 iconSize 32
 bViewBridge true
 bAnimateCamera true
 bActorOnLand true
 bSaveViewHLand false
 bShowLandscape true
 iLightDestruction 128
 iWaterLevel 191
 defFullDX 32.0
 defFullDY 24.0

and the conf.ini:
Code: [Select]
Ctrl C=copy
Ctrl X=cut
Ctrl V=paste
Right=bridgeRight
Left=bridgeLeft
Up=bridgeOffset+
Down=bridgeOffset-

and after loading the same map, this appears...

...according to my actors loading problem:

Does anybody know, if the game version, on that a Map Editor bases on, has an influence of how big an actors file may be?
I do not think that this matters, but I am desperate enough to ask ...

As far as the map builder crashing when loading a map, have you tried lowering the RAM.
I am always having to adjust the RAM setting depending on the map being loaded.

Hi Seppel

Have you checker the log file?

If I remember correctly you’ll get a memory error if you have selected to little memory.

For me 1024 Mb was needed in mapbuilder mode on large maps.

Good luck!

Thanks!

Uhm ... where can I lower the RAM?

I will also check and post the log file.

G'day Seppel

In the Selector there should be an expert mode.
Older versions you need to unlock this with a code found in the documentation that comes with it.
Newer versions expert mode comes already unlocked.
I recommend installing the latest version as it also comes with an awesome dump mode.

When initially setting up your map builder, part of the configuring process is increasing the RAM which is normally set at 512 MB for game play to 1024 MB for map building.

Like I said in my previous reply, some maps I have to lower the RAM.
Green Hell 43 for example needs to be set at 756 MB, I can't remember the exact number.

Only in BAT.

UPDATE:

It is totaly WEIRD!

I installed BAT 4.2..
I changed it to a ME.
AGAIN: landscape wasn't shown.

I replaced the bldconf.ini by an old one from a back up.
NOW landscape is shown.

I changed a line from which I thougt it could be responsible for the missing landscape.
(changed it like the "first" bldconf.ini)
Landscape is STILL SHOWN !?

I AGAIN pasted in the first bldconf.ini (the one that lacked the landscape in the first place) and ...

... landscape STILL is SHOWN!!??

What is this?

But still I can't load the desired actors-file.

UPDATE 2:

Okayyy ...

In my ME basing on BAT 4.2 I just changed the RAM to 756.
The desired map loaded!!!!!

The game crashed lateron when I was trying to work, but this coouuld result from a too big file.
Still not logical, as it worked before, but I think it is a progress.

So genXgamer you are on the right way! :-D
