I tried changing the "windows DEP settings",
but it just ended with "Steam is no longer supported on your computer's operating system".

Looks like I have no choice but to give up.

sure windows 8.1 is no longer considered a safe system for net connections I have even worst problems with my XPsp3 version that I am still using in off line mode

 I want to upgrade to a new Windows, but the application "Adobe CS5" will no longer work.
The amount of design work I've been doing has decreased, but it's still necessary.

I have to choose between the two, but for now I think I'll choose "maintaining the status quo".

I'd like a PC that runs a little faster, though.

In order to follow up on Adobe CS5 on newer Windows Versions, simply
make sure you'll install the Adobe CS5 Software in it's 32-bit and 64-bit architecture side by side.
Yes, install both versions simultanously.
