Light cruisers of Japan.
« on: December 17, 2024, 03:50:40 PM »

I would like to add the missing models of Japanese light cruisers to Il.
On the eve of the war, the Imperial Japanese Navy had two light cruisers of the Tenryu type with a displacement of 3500 tons, 14 ships of the Kuma, Nagara and Sendai types with a displacement of 5500 tons and an experimental light cruiser Yubari with a displacement of 3560 tons, as well as three Katori-class training light cruisers. During the war, Japan managed to commission only four light cruisers of the Agano class and one of the Oyoda class. In total - 25 ships. Of the 25 light cruisers that were part of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II, nine were sunk by American and British submarines. 11 by American aircraft, two by American torpedo boats or destroyers, and three remained afloat at the end of the war. Japanese light cruisers turned out to be very vulnerable to submarine attacks and air strikes. Of course, there is no point in recreating all 25 cruisers; of interest are ships with weapons of different vintages and specialized ships created on the basis of cruisers, such as an air defense cruiser, a high-speed transport cruiser, and the like.
The project is large and quite complex and I cannot guarantee its complete completion, so upon completion of work with one series of cruisers, I will immediately upload a beta version.

Let's start by seniority. Light cruisers of the Tenryu class are the oldest of those that took an active part in the Second World War. They were built for the Imperial Japanese Navy according to the 1916 program. The project was based on the concept of "leaders", whose main task is to serve as (flagship officers) in destroyer flotillas. Two units were built in the series, “Tenryu” and “Tatsuta”.
Both ships had a busy combat career, both ships were sunk by the submarines Tenryu in 1942 and Tatsuta in 1944. We will build both cruisers, a 3D model of which will correspond to the time of their destruction. I have a ready-made Tenryu model from the game War on the Sea, which nevertheless needs to be improved in terms of weapons and changes after upgrades.
A leisurely two hours of work and Tenryu is in the game.

Really fantastic tvister!

I'll have to look out for those wires when I strafe it.

Hi Tvister,

Firstly, the ship all ready looks good.
If I may ask a question (sorry if it is silly, but I do not know a lot about 3D modelling) is the hardest part of adapting the 3D model, importing the guns / weapons, compared to adding a ship without these elements (as the ship is at the moment).

If so, roughly how complicated is it for a ship without weapons to be added, such as the ones on this link (the container ship is similar to the one in JTW)

Good afternoon. Thank you for your interest and support. It's difficult for me to answer your question, redbaron96. I won't say that importing a weapon or body is very difficult.  The level of "difficulty" is made up of many factors. For me, for example, the most difficult thing is working with java. I had to abandon many projects due to insufficient knowledge of java. How accurate a model do you want to import into IL? The higher the accuracy, the more polygons, the more polygons, the harder it is to work with the model. Mesh properties, texture complexity, all this can make working with the model easier or more difficult.

I'm guessing you want that container ship.
