actually the path is the same because it is tested and works, at least it should,
I don't know in which patch you didn't have the sounds turned on.

The folders my_presets my_samples should go in the main IL-2 folder if you would like to have the sounds in the plane folder then the structure should be presets\sounds\xxxx.prs
Samples\xxxx

Try this:
  SoundName Gnome-Rhome-Jupiter
  PropName middle
  StartStopName std_p

Thank you Vasya for your help and work you did to help me solve the problem, as well as Frankiek for your valuable tips,
I did a lot of tests and checked different variants with the new FM on both Vp modpack installs which was quite time-consuming,
in the newer install, the one where SOC did not want to work after many unsuccessful attempts I simply added SAS_Engine_Mod2.8.20w_20200725_full which fixed the situation, now I can enjoy the plane and its beautiful engine sound,
in the older install the airplane works,
in both installs the same log error occurred despite the plane working quite well :

Unfortunately - it doesn't take off from the water.
This plane doesn't accelerate above 85 km/h.
I don't know how to fix it.
It flies at approximately the rated speed in the air.

Hi Vasya,

Successful landing and takeoff !! .... Finally exceeded the speed of 80 km/h...!! ;D

.... with this assembly ....

https://www.mediafire.com/file/800wncnhryg6kh8/00_USA_Curtiss_SOC-1_Seagull.zip/file

Can you please check and confirm it?

Greetings,

Gilles

It is always better to use the cod file instead of the static weapon declaration in the class file. Using the cod will save memory and your pc resources
