Windows update
« on: January 17, 2025, 09:08:30 AM »

Hi guys,

I just had two windows updates.  I now have Windows 24H2. and thank you Windows my IL2 BAT game will not launch.

Now as I understand it the 24H2 update is a security update and I'm assuming that it has listed IL2 as being suspicious and is now blocking it.

Thank you again Windows

Now I am no computer wiz and have spent half the morning watching YouTube videos about this problem and haven't understood a word any of these techies have said.  So at the moment I don't know how to fix it or how to go back to the previous Windows version.

So I just wanted to give you guys a heads up in case you experience the same issue.  It'll be fixable I'm sure but have to figure out how to do it.

If anybody has any knowledge about this please raise your hands and yell, "Oo me sir, me sir, I know!"

Yes thanks Mike but I've been there and done that.

I have the DEP activated with the Il2 exec added. I did notice one thing however.  In that link you sent you say that if you are using the second option then you must add ALL the executable files.  However when I tried to add the exec for the Selector it refused to allow me to do that.

So when you say "ALL" are there more than two. -  the game and the consul

I'm running BAT 4.2.2 by the way

When I launch the game through the Selector the blue game window comes up for about 3 seconds and then drops back to the desktop

So something else in the 24H2 update is screwing with the sim

Nope I say all instances of il2fb.exe on your PC.
There might be one, there might be two, there might be dozens, depending on how many different IL-2 game folders you have.
Nobody talked about any other exe so far.
That being said, what's wrong with sticking to option one?

What's the Windows Event Log telling? Any il2fb.exe crashes in there in the "Application" log?

OK panic over.  After trawling through youTube vids I found out how to reset my windows 11 back to an earlier version.
Then I told my Windows Update NOT to automatically update Windows.

Rebooted and the Simulator is working again perfectly.

I now have more gray hair, am 5lbs lighter and have got through half a bottle of scotch BUT... we're flying again.

Thanks Mike

Yeah 24H2 seems a bit whacky at the moment.
That being said, I am on 24H2, heck even our gameserver is on it (in the Server 2025 fashion), and have not witnessed any such issues so far.
Looks like I'm one hell of a lucky guy lol 8)
