On February 2, 2025, Russia celebrates the 82nd anniversary of the USSR's victory in the Battle of Stalingrad over the Nazi troops.
In honor of this holiday, the next stage of improving the game "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" is opened.
The Battle of Stalingrad became one of the main and decisive stages in the victory of the USSR over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War and in World War II.

Dedicated to the bright memory of the fallen soldiers of the Soviet Army:

1. This is the next stage of work and by analogy with the first stage (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,56944.0.html) it is called "Old game, new life, stage 2"

2.  At this stage, new graphic DLLs are introduced, they completely have all the improvements that the previous ones (DLL_4096_2017).
Additionally, the ability to use TGA textures with a size of 8192x8192 pixels is introduced.
ATTENTION !! The use of JPG textures is limited to a size of 4096x4096 pixels !!!!!!!!!!

3.  After the appearance of the graphic DLL of the new version, it became possible to introduce into the game the cockpit (the author of the 3D model see below) of the Yak-3 and Yak-3P aircraft with the MAIN textures of 8192 pixels.
Other textures used were also increased in size and supplemented with new details.
This version of the cockpit and aircraft replaces the standard cockpits and aircraft of the specified aircraft in the game.
At this stage of development, the modification has the status of BETA!

Description of the aircraft cockpit, test only version game 4.12.2:
A 3D model of the cockpit from the game WAR TUNDER was used, which was improved, reworked and adapted to the game.
On my own behalf, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the creators of the 3D model.
The mod is completely free and the authors of the modification have no commercial benefit.
The main texture is 8192 pixels
Other textures are from 1024 to 4096 pixels.
An opening cockpit has been made.
New details, textures of oil splashes when the engine is damaged.
Now the oil splashes move together with the movable part of the cockpit, you can open the cockpit and get better visibility.
New bullet holes in the cockpit windows. A 2048 pixel texture is used.
A new texture of scratches on the glass, a 4096 pixel texture is used.
A new detail of the bullet holes on the movable part of the cockpit moves when opening.
Two types of sight in the cockpit "PKI(PKI)" and "PBP-1(PBP-1)"
By default, the "PBP-1(PBP-1)" sight is used. To use the "PKI(PKI)" sight, add the following lines to your conf.ini:

Value 0 = "PBP-1(PBP-1)"
Value 1 = "PKI(PKI)"
If there are no lines in conf.ini, "PBP-1(PBP-1)" is used

ATTENTION FM(FM) is taken from the standard game version 4.12.2 !!
REQUIRED Diff_FM_Mod 4_12_2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A fuel level indicator is installed in the cockpit (on a real aircraft, this indicator was not in the cockpit).
IN THE FUTURE PLANS THERE IS A DESIRE TO REPLACE THE EXTERNAL MODEL OF THE AIRFRAME AND INSTALL STANDARD FUEL LEVEL INDICATORS ON THE WINGS
By default, this device is in the cockpit, if you need to remove this device from the cockpit, make an entry in conf.ini

Fuel_300=1
or
Fuel_300=0

Value 1 = there is a device
Value 0 = there is no device

Installing the modification:

1. download new graphic DLLs (https://www.mediafire.com/file/dxwj0vc4hle8j2w/DLL_8192_2025.7z/file)
2. unpack the new graphic DLLs into the root of the game, agree to the replacement.
3. Download the Yak-3 and Yak-3P cockpit(https://www.mediafire.com/file/hf40161mou8rfv1/Carsmaster_COCKPIT_YAK_3_YAK_3P_8192pix.7z/file)
4. Unpack the cockpit into the "mods" folder

At this stage of development, the modification has the status of BETA!

Yak-3 and Yak-3P cockpit version #2
Changes:
1. Added animation of the canopy opening ball moving from sliding
2. Added the ability to select the color of the night illumination in the cockpit.

NighLightColor=1

................................
NighLightColor=0 white and blue color
NighLightColor=1 red illumination
If there is no recording, white-blue color is used.

However, 8192 drill seems to be affecting skins from time to time in external view.
  - tested on 4.12.2m, BAT 4.2_WAW
  - I don't see any special error messages

I recommend that other users check it out too (because it might only happen to me...).

Should interior cockpit night lighting not be red ?
I think that the idea that cockpits of the WW2 era were lit with white/yellow/blue hued lights
are not historically accurate.
My experience ( very much limited to Firefly FR Mk 1 , TBM Avenger , Swordfish , Beech 18 ,
Grumman Tracker , Harvard - aircraft in the collection at the museum where I volunteer ) is that night
lighting for aircraft of this period is a combination of red bulbed or red filtered lights , instruments and gauges
marked with radium painted witness marks and needles.
I have no experience with Russian or Japanese aircraft , or in honesty a broad range of aircraft , but logic suggests
that illumination that reduces exterior night vision is not intelligent or safe.

I am not trying to undermine great mod work , just pose a question with historicity as the ultimate goal.

Good question, Kopfdorfer.
I remember this question being discussed extensively on Russian language forums in the early days of the game. Probably, red was more popular, indeed. But there were also blue and white, there were ultraviolet lamps illuminating fluorescent signs, light filters, etc.
I assume that Carsmaster knows more.

Movement of the red ball = Movement of the black bead..... :)

This seems to be a useful function for pilots who have a habit of not looking at black bead...like me.

And I just keep 4096 drill. That doesn't seem to cause any inconvenience.
