Northrop XB-35 and YB-49 Flying Wings.
« on: February 19, 2025, 04:08:09 AM »

Hello guys, here is a release of the Northrop XB-35 and YB-49 Flying Wings extracted from BAT. ;)

I have been asked to release this on behalf of gilles64 and Vasya all credit goes to them as they did much of the leg work on getting this
one to where it is at, thanks to them and others who helped put this together by providing certain files.

This updated release on 20th February 2025 was provided by gilles64 and Vasya and now includes both the B-35 and B-49:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/8o0jifzd699m9b4/00_USA_Northrop_XB-35_%2526_YB-49_Version_2.zip/file

Self stationary planes Pete Shaw aka Mission_bug:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/7b5aupiuraowq3t/Northrop+B-35+and+B-49.7z/file

Tested in IL_2 1946 4.12 with Modact 5.30.

Extracted from BAT, by Pete Shaw aka Mission-bug along with cod files, Franciek later identified the specific cod files for the aircraft.

Both the B-35 and B-49 were developed by Dandolo513 along with Vampire Pilot, these were imported from FS 2009, Simviation.com and the original creator is, Kazunori Ito. Mick and Frankiek were also involved in some of the work above.

Add the folder as it is into your #SAS folder, the contents of those folders might be different to how you would normally see them, please leave as they are.

Thanks to BAT team and benitomuso (PAL) for tools used in extraction entries for aircraft and weapons.

New cod, corrected fm, em, hashed class files by Vasya.

B-35 wheel hooks adjusted by Pete Shaw aka Mission_Bug.

Please make sure you have the high rez skins for ModAct activated in your game.

Notes:

There are now both the B-35 and B-49 flying wings in this release and it uses the hashed files unlike the original WIP download as
most I think prefer to use hashed classes rather than those as extracted from BAT.

The aircraft has issues in take-off using AI, you will need to reduce fuel and possibly bomb load to the lowest available weight
and find a rather long runway, something IL-2 is short of.
Generally 70% fuel for the B-35 and 60% has been about the best in testing so far.

There is apparently an issue with some of the atomic weapons as advised by gilles64:

"When dropping the Mk.4 and Mk.5 nuclear bombs .... there is no explosion on the ground !!!! "

This could be some elements are missing in the mod or his install, other users might not have any issues,
please report anything you notice.

In my install if I go straight into the weapons screen of the B-49 to change any parameters or the skin the screen flickers and will not allow you to change things so you will need to escape the sim. If you wish to enter the weapons screen for the B-49 fist load it up and go straight to fly before escaping and then you should
be able to make changes to weapons and skin in the options. This could just be an issue in my install. ;)

Note:  If you do not have a section for the self stationary aircraft you will need to create one using the headers shown below after your stock static entries.

Follow the path:  STD/com/maddox/il2/objects/ Stationary.ini and Technics.ini.

If you wish to use the Self Stationary Plane add the folder in the download that begins with the title 'PS_B_35_SSP' to your mod folder and add the following lines:

Add to Stationary.ini:

Salut Mick,

Est-ce le B-49 est aussi de Dandolo513 ?

Is this B-49 also from Dandolo513 ?

... yep, but in fact I believe it is Vampire Pilot who originally initiated the project, and Dandolo then asked me if I could add the shadows ...  ;)

Hello guys, hope all is well. ;)

At the request of Gilles I added some changes to the text above in the first post, however, update of the readme will have to wait until there is another update, if one is needed that is:

Renamed something in the weapons list:  "it's not Little Boy that is Mk.3, it's Fat Man"

Mention of classfiles for you to test is now struck out:

"This was for the B-49 only... !!"

"Vasya has provided a few different class files and FMs so you can experiment at you leisure, please bear in mind this has eight engines
but as far as I am aware IL_2 only uses six at a maximum."

Dandolo513 contacted me to clarify who the original author was and that he and Andy were responsible for adding it to BAT and so that is added in the first post, also Mick and Frankiek were involved in the work as well.

I think that clarifies a few things but really we need a new update to remove any unnecessary files and update the readme properly.  ;)

I am sure other things will need altering but for now I added the clarifications Gilles mentioned so far, anything else you guys will know from the WIP thread who was involved, however, if you were involved and are not mentioned then please let us know.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello guys, there is now a new download in the first post, you now have both versions of the flying wing, B-35 and B-49. ;)

Thanks again to gilles64 and Vasya for bringing these changes, really appreciated. 8)

Also a big thanks must go to all those who have helped throughout get these two aircraft into this thread, all their efforts and assistance is greatly appreciated.

The readme is now updated.

Additional notes, please read and report back as to whether these issues affect you. ;)

Stationary files are now available for both aircraft.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.  February 2025.
