Interactive startup procedure
« on: March 07, 2025, 05:37:06 AM »

I know this is just daydreaming, but I would love to see more interactive startup procedures for planes. For one, I love starting up airplanes in other simulators like FlightGear, and would love to see something like that in Il-2 too.

Of course I know very well that clickable buttons or some precise realistic procedures are not feasible for this old game, but it doesn't need to be that.
Like now in BAT, we have more sophisticated startup for planes than in vanilla game, and my dream is only for make that more interactive.

Even if magnetos are off as default when mission starts would make some differences already and I would be happier already with that.
Even better thou, if we need to set throttle at specific position depending on the conditions, need to use 120% fuel settings and maybe even push primer (keybinding) few times to get engine start as it starts now in BAT, or otherwise would fail after little bit of trying to start animations, I would be so happy virtual pilot. (For now I haven't see difference in startup success whether the setting is 120% or 100%) I can be wrong thou...

So:
- Even if only magnetos starts off position as default when mission starts would be already better for me. (and maybe for somebody else too)
- If plane requires to set throttle at specific position depending on the conditions, need to use 120% fuel settings to start, would be even better.
- Adding primer function would be fun too (idk how many WWII planes had manual primer, but i would think many of them had?)

That's all for now, folks. I'll keep dreaming!   ^-^

If you want more realistic start-ups, simply use the IES package.

Well Master Gabriel beat me to that  :D

All the features that you are asking for (together with several others) are already included in IL-2 IES version that has now reached 4.1.2

Below an example of standard procedures for startup Bf-109 and D-520 have even more specific procedures.

Code: [Select]
Below are the controls & also instructions needed for a correct generic engine start-up.
Where there is a minus symbol ( - ) then this is a key you must assign within your game Controls.
- Tailwheel LOCK
- Chocks IN
- Parking Brake Released
- Canopy CLOSE (if applicable)
- Battery ON
- Master Electrics ON
- Navs ON
- Select ALL engines
- Radiators CLOSED
- Set throttle to 4% or 5%
- Mixture to 120 (or Automatic)
- Set Prop Pitch 100% (or Automatic)
- Magnetos 1 & 2
- Starter ON
 wait for engine to start
- Set mixture to 100 / Auto
Engine & oil heat up
* Heat engine & oil temperature
- Set Throttle to 1500-RPM (Power to 30%)
Watch the Oil gauges, they have a small white colored C on both of them.
This needs to get to number 4 (40C) or more before we can take-off
Once the Oil has reached 20C increase to 1900-RPM (47% power) to speed up the heating process.
*Warm up finished !
The Oil is now 40C +, lower the throttle to 1000-RPM
(20% power) keeping the engines at a good temperature.
Make final checks,
Make sure you have not forgot.
Chocks, Tailwheel locked, Prop pitch 100%
- Flaps TAKE-OFF position
- Contact Ground-Control
- Request permission to Take-off
Before take-off
- Check Gunsight
- Check Oxygen/Mask
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WEAPONS ;
- Set key for * Master Arm * to remove safety & enable weapons / machine guns & cannons
- Set a key for * Gunsight * , to enable your gunsight reticle

I found pdf file from this site, which includes google drive links for the mod. I would think this is up to date version?
If I understand correctly, this is standalone version which contain all necessary files? No need to install new stock version of game?

And of of course I assume this isn't compatible with BAT, but does anybody know where to find info, what else this mod includes than startup procedures? CnC, better FMB, more maps, only stock planes or also modded?
My internet is slow and it's downloading right now, so don't know yet myself.  ;D

IES is a community more interested in online flying with realistic settings than anything else so if you would like to know more you need to contact them directly at

Make sure that you downloaded the standalone version. Then just extract the content to an empty folder. Very important no previous version of IL-2 like all the other packs, but just an empty folder outside the C:\Program Files. You can name it whatever you want.

Once extraction is finished you are ready to setup. You have to run the selector and set him for HSFX/Classic Mod making sure that you have an empty mods folder. Start JSGME and activate one of the eras. At this point you can launch IL2fb.exe.

Good flight.

Yeah, It's possible I found and downloaded wrong version. It's also possible that files where corrupted while downloaded, because after extracting it to it's own empty folder, checking that selector has right options, activating JSGME and double clicking .exe I just got long list of errors. Will try download again, and if still not working will try to find right version.

Then just extract the content to an empty folder.
Vous êtes sûr ?
J'ai jamais fait ça... juste lancer l'exe depuis le dossier de téléchargement...
C'est nouveau avec la dernière version ?

Are you sure?
I've never done this... just run the .exe from the download folder...
New with the latest version?

What Frankiek possible meant, or at least what I assumed was just that iES.exe which you download is just basically extractor and not installer.
