Ships.ini value PreferSlowTarget....any clue about?
« on: March 24, 2025, 12:23:46 PM »

Hi mates!

I need another help in understanding how to manage ships entries due my BAT reorganization work...

In particular this time I need help with PreferSlowTarget

The only post I find such entry is this:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,38584.msg531711.html#msg531711

In the specific the code about:

[IJNIseBB:Part5]
BaseChunk                 Head3
AdditionalCollisionChunk0  Gun3
strengthBasedOnThisSection strength_GunHuge

gunBasedOnThisSection gun_MkVII_356
 FireFastTaget                1
 PreferSlowTarget
 HeadMinYaw                -150
 HeadMaxYaw                 150
 NoFireMinYaw               -60
 NoFireMaxYaw                60
 GunHeadChunk             Head3
 GunBarrelChunk            Gun3
 GunShellStartHook  ShellStart3

Apparently is used in a gun data where the gun even if can shoot at fast targets....infact is set to (FireFastTaget = 1)....when both are present in range it should give precedence to slow one....

Is correct my interpretation?

That's my supposition. I created a mission for naval testing in which a variety of IJN ships are travelling together, but at different speeds. An enemy group of RN BBs about 12km distant will very much preferentially target the slow tankers and merchants, even though Nipponese BBs and CAs are shooting back. So yeah, this property has a potent effect.
