Nice one CY6 and Others  involded ;D  (sorry wrote the first post at 5am )

A long a waited aircraft is finally a reality  ;D

Now everyone can use the German aircraft carrier in so many interesting what if
scenarios.

Thanks for the great job   :D  Well done  :)

Ok I understand what you mean, but believe me, I have not done with intent to annoy anyone

No worries, Berserker. Truth be told it was the longer wings that kept this puppy below decks all this time. We figured we'd just go ahead and let people enjoy it as-is, and save the perfected version for a later release.

Has anyone figured out how to reliably land this without bending the prop? I've managed a couple of times, but only by luck - my first time I thought I'd missed the wire, so opened the throttle - it came down hard, but level. The second time I bounced off the curved start to the deck, slammed down half way along, and somehow caught a wire. ::)

A great mod, but a real test of flying skills. Or maybe I'm just not doing it right...

I recommend a low approach at about 500-800 meters after dropping the airspeed to the low 200s. Extend the undercarriage before banking into final approach, drop the flaps into "take-off" position, lowering them into full "landing" position at the thresh-hold of the carrier. The key element is keeping the nose up with the elevator trim all while keeping the kite aloft with 30-40% throttle, although 25-35% is more preferable. As soon as the nose clears the deck cut the throttle, at this time the elevator trim should be set at maximum tail-heavy. Once you cut the power, pull back on the control column gently yet firmly to perch her. At this point the stick would be dug into or close to the belly, and should be kept there until the kite has come to a complete stop. After that, the only thing left to do is set the chocks.

Remember, low and slow, keep that carrier deck right above the horizon. Oh yeah, don't forget that tail-hook. That's kind of important. ;D

-Hope that helps.

I've sent the Graf Zeppelin down to the Riviera where the Rushey Platt test pilot is currently on his summer hols. Wish I'd been there to see his face. Anyway, he records that it flies pretty much like any other 109, and pointed at the limited forward view offered by a landplane design. Full flaps on approach are a must to get a decent approach angle. He also says to watch your speed and flare generously, because this aeroplane can bounce a heck of a lot when the cables snag the hook, and he trashed an engine via a propellor strike on his second landing for that very reason. Praise however must go to whoever modified the undercarriage. No landlubber 109 could possibly withstand landing forces like those!

If there had been a lot of undercarriage failings before wth the 109, think of how many would have resulted in a carrier based version!!!Just think of the failure rate on Seafires & multiply it! ;)

Some estimates tell us that as many as half the 109 airframes lost were down to accidents, and many of those due to bumslandung - Heavy landings. You'd think after 17,000 accidents someone would have realised why it was all going wrong :D
