Volbekom Strike,

have/are you taken/taking account to missile booster time + speed bleedoff after booster has burnt out + missile energy bleed during manouvering??
Short answer: Currently no. It's worth being implemented, but currently I can't tell you a schedule for this.

footages from AIM-9b kills usually show a long-lasting white/light-grey stream behind them as least as long as the booster is burning.
Yes that's right and I'd really like to show it like it was in RL (would be even easier to implement this in the effects), but however here we're hitting the game engine limitations quite soon.
A slow machine (like my gameplay-PC for IL-2) will nearly grind to a halt if one missile carries such kind of stream, at least when 10 of them do so, nearly every PC will.
Smoke is something which needs to be handled extremely carefully in order not to everstress the IL-2 engine.

Best regards - Mike

I just want to give thanks to the Brains and Skills behind this project. Some feared the day we bring air to air missiles to IL-2 but if those folks don't like it don't download it.

This is absolutely one of the biggest step that we've taken to modernized this game. It's fun seeing how we keep advancing into modern times as such in RL. And obviously I'm a big fan of the jet era.

Sorry if this has already been addressed. In a small test mission I made, I noticed the AI F-86J did not fire it's missiles (although the pilot kept saying 'Attacking with rockets" every time it fired it's guns).

Well, I can say that my squad plays with the J alot. We even setup a few MDS maps with it and we have a ball. It's not an automatic kill everytime you pull the trigger and that's what makes it so much fun.

As far as the situation AVIAR is talking about; I have seen this too. I have also seen my AI's say that and then just fire the missile without saying a word. I have also had my AI "Shoulder shoot" with these things. I'll be lining up on a jet and WHOOOSSHH!!!!, an AIM-9 flies right past my cockpit. Gotta love that.

Fair enough. I only 'tested' for about 10 minutes and I had Sidewinders loaded, not AIM-9's. The AI had seemingly perfect shots set up but did not fire so I figured I would come here and ask. I was simply fascinated to see actual missiles in IL-2. You see, I have been playing IL-2 since day one (almost 10 years now) and it was quite a shock.

Actually, I think the mod seems to be very well executed, for the short time I have tried it. Well done.

You see, I am a mission-builder at heart, so one of the first things I do instinctively is try and 'break' a mod. This means I try and find it's flaws...'bugs'...if you will. Most mods have them. Some are minor and some are game-breakers...but you need to know what they are. You don't want to waste 30 hours making a coop mission only to discover in the end that some silly bug has rendered the whole thing useless.

So, what are the chances the F-86J will be in the next UP version?

EDIT: I just changed the targets for my AI F-86J's and indeed they fired their missiles. I did notice that although I had Sidewinders loaded, the on-screen text read 'AIM-9 engaged'. Perhaps a known issue?

AIM-9 is a type of sidewinder
Indeed 8)

The AI had seemingly perfect shots set up but did not fire
AI has some hard time to get themselves into a position within the AIM-9B engagement envelope.
Remember they have to be within range limits (not too close, ~500m is the lowest limit, not too far, ~4km limit here), rear hemisphere of the target, no more than 25 degrees off course to the target, and - and this is the point AI misses 99% of the time - no more than 2G load during that manoeuvre (in jets AI usually pulls much more Gs, around 4G is nothing special for AI during attack).
Since the AI code logic won't launch missiles unless the situation is promising enough, the result simply is that AI takes most missiles back home.
In order to change that, AI base classes need some modifications. That's WIP within the 1956 Jet War package.

what are the chances the F-86J will be in the next UP version?
0%? Maybe less.
The F-86J is currently put on halt since I'm working together with the other guys here to get the 1956 Jet War package done, which will have much nicer F-86 versions, including AIM-9 Sidewinders, a few other guided missiles etc., with improved code, physics, specs, capabilities, limitations etc.
That pack has a much higher chance to become part of UP once it's done.

Word!
Please consider the F-86J mod being kind of abandoned. It worked for most users and I'm sorry for those who can't get it to work, but it's very, very unlikely I'll ever touch it again. It's obsolete. Update to IL-2 4.10.1 and install the 1956 Jets package.

this sort of works in 4.10.1
the plane is fine however the missile guidance uses a potato battery
it doesn't track for toffee
