The latest SAS Buttons works fine on my system, however, when I add the lines to my air.ini, and add both helicopter files into my mods folder I get a crash to desktop.

I'm using 4.1 HSFX, is this a standard problem for such?

Just got around to installing this little gem, planning some Suez type operations where the Royal Navy used the Whirlwind to land assault troops for the first time.

Coming unstuck trying to create a static model for it, anybody got a good idiots guide on how to do that.

I have done it for other aircraft but I'm getting something wrong here and it keeps crashing.  Something to do with plane.class files I'm told but I have no idea what they are talking about.

Anyway, brilliant bit of work, it will be even better when the AI learns how to drive it.

Hello All
Have to said,I like the new Helo to the game....My question is..How do you use the collective (up & down) :-[...or is it thru the power of the Engine?

Also I noticed that I can't trim it out for forward flight...Must keep hands pushing forward on stick to fgo forward

thx 68Gulf

Yes, whatever control you normally use for throttle becomes the collective in this helicopter, though it isn't entirely accurate in the way it works - it doesn't seem to have any effect during autorotation for example. I expect this is due to limitations in the flight modelling. Considering IL-2 didn't support helicopters at all before this, I'd say it does a darned good job.

And you do need to apply forward stick to keep the speed up - I don't think helicopters of that time had trim (actually, I'm not sure they do even now). If I was going to fly choppers a lot in IL-2, I might look at modifying a joystick to reduce the centring force, which would probably make it more comfortable.

Yeah I noticed that too. And if my hand gets lazy pushing my ffb stick forward, I find myself going 20mph all of a sudden.

So Flak was kind enough to post this link on the HRS 3 thread
http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/publications/tp9982-menu-976.htm

Reading through that will be likely enough of an explanation to get you savvy with a helo's controls and how they translate to a fixed wing a/c. Seems to help if you have a separate throttle and pedals.

This isn't Blackshark, but then I'm not the type of flyer who ordinarily flies helos- so the fact that it is in IL-2 makes it interesting enough to give it a good go.

What ever your motivation, good luck and enjoy

Hello to everybody, I'm new here, but I wanted to give a HUGE cheers & thanks
to Flakiten and the dudes working on this project!  ;D

I know I'm late with this, but better late than never. :D

This is outstanding work - I can't wait until our "Squadron Leader" hears about this;
we've been veeery conservative the past months and stuck to stock UP 2.0/n.

He's been flying Luftwaffe Hueys during the 70's and 80's; so I reckon he'll be "dripping"
for his first solo in that S-55 of yours!  8)

Thanks again, so much, Flakiten and crew!  :)

S! Bearkiller72!
(signing off to practice landing... :(  ;) )

Oh, btw: "our" SAR skin.  8) :D

Just amazing craft!

Thanks to all modders involved!

Here's my single mission (inspired by this beautiful heli appeal), in a good memory of HMS "Sheffield" (D180, type 42 destroyer):

This sounds very good, and will be DL'ing along with the Template (of which, is it compatible with the D Model?) and seeing how it is. Just wondering if something could/should be put in the plane &/or weapon .ru files?

Although I'm no IRL Helo Pilot, I have been flying Battlefield Vietnam Helo's since 03' and was one of the few people to own & love the older 'RC Stunt Copter' on the PSX (that's the original PS One for those to young to remember.)

After reading all the posts, the lack of trimming doesn't bother me, although I'm sure one of the Westland versions had some sort of 'aid', be it idle speed trim or hover trimming AFAIR reading in a book about Bristow Helicopters Ltd.
---Off Topic Slightly---
Eric Bristow was I believe was training at the end of or just after WW2 in the RAF/British Army allied helo's of 44/45' vintage (S-4 ?), but inside it there was a chapter or two with some details relating to the HRS3. I will find the book in the library this week, and give its correct title and ISBN, cos' its worth a read, and some details also about WW2 hello's could lead to ahistorically modded 46' style with some weapons.
----Tuesday 12th Oct 16:27GMT----
Istalled and flew it last night, the AI can't fly it or wingmen even as 'Ace' - seems to think helo's are fighters, not say, transports or spotter A/C; would I need the 'Teach AI To Fly' addon/mod? Yes it shakes around a bit, but I use a gamepad (thats hyper-sensitive) so my input values have a lvl 4 filter and 6 pips of deadzone, but when the winds in the right direction, and the blood in my hands and thumbs isnt pumping too hard/fast, it flies smoothly upto 75 KIAS.
There isn't as much rotational torque as I gathered from others, and insome ways I found it quites easy to fly even in rain or storm conditions, just treat the controls like a small sensitive pink thing; gently ::P. I even manged to land it in gusty conditions on Coral Sea Map on a Carrier at the 1st attempt!

Approached the carrier from astern, at around 500ft, average speed of 55 KIAS, at 40% with less than 50% fuel and no passengers, closer to deck I lowered the nose more to level out (the HSR3 wants to always tilt heavily back off stick, where as the weapon loaded D model is quite neutral off stick albeit for a short time at moderate power,) dropped power to 35% and kept the pitch just between bow deck line & horizon, with occasional bursts of power to keep speed around 35 KIAS till touch down, unitentatially right on the lift whan it made contact at 35 KIAS, braked, chocked then screenshot-ed.

Thanks for this wonderous model all involved, yes there's some minor glitches, non intrument panel & control gfx in the cockpit are sparse no nav of landing/spotting lights & some sort of different idling sound needed while the rotor is un-clutched, but this is still a WIP. From medium outside distance at some angles only one rotor blade is seen; although the fuz doesn't disappear for me, and you can do some really crazy 'death circles' down to 10ft. Keep up the good work. Someday... a Flying Banana? a RAF Air Sea Rescue WW2 Helo, Flettner, Focke-Angelis?

I think his problem is that he wants to use the UP 2.01 buttons and still fly the newest version. Unfortunately we can't do that right now. We have to wait until the next UP update.

Glad to hear your flying now Maico, the sweetspot is about 65 KIAS I think/for me.
