[BETA] Sikorsky HRS3 & H19D version 1.05

Sikorsky HRS3 & H19D Chickasaw
Beta tester 1.05

This is a helicopter MOD for IL2 Sturmovik (c).
SAS~Sani has managed to make a flight model that is very close to real. Not the total flight characteristics of a helicopter, I know but, considering the limitations of the simulator, it is the best helicopter flight model I've tried. I am a helicopter pilot so I know something about it.

Notes:

1). The Sikorsky HRS-3 MOD has an auto stability system that makes flying the helicopter easier.

2). The real Sikorsky S-55 has a clutch between the engine and the rotor gear box. The pilot could engage and disengage the rotors. We don´t have this function in Il2 so I put an Clutch system that disengages the rotors if your throttle is set below 10%.

3). The floats are for emergency water landings. They are activated using the "arrestor hook" key and can be used one time only.

4). The "cabin door" key only opens the main cargo door.

5). You have 3 view positions. Normal in the right side or the cabin, head out using "toggle seat position" key and co-pilot view using "toggle gunsight" key.

6). Auto-rotation flight has been achieved but not the flare manouver. I don´t know if "flare manouver" is the correct term in engish, I´m talking about the manouver to reduce speed and stop descent near the ground. So you may do a small landing run.

7). If you got a full cabin/ammo load you must reduce the fuel load. The sikorsky S-55 was a power limited helicopter (radial engine).

8). AI has not yet learned how to fly helicopters.

9). If you use Quick Mission, try to start the flight on the ground/runway.

INSTALATION:

1). Open the Sikorsky_55_Helicopters_v1.5.rar file

2). Put the Sikorsky_HRS3_v1.5 & Sikorsky_H19D_v1.00 folders on your MODS folder

3). You must have the last SAS buttons installed - This model do not use DiffFM at this stage.

4). Open your air.ini file and paste the next entries:

H19D            air.H19D 1                      NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
HRS3            air.HRS3 1                      NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER

5). Enjoy it

Update 1.01 - Aug 12, 2010

Asymmetric lift added. If you exceed the VNE (165kph) the helicopter will turn to the left. The shift will be more violent as the speed increases. To avoid it set speed below the VNE. (thanks Sani)

Flakiten you can actually flare the helicopter pretty easily for landing... however on that note I have been flying this kinda thing for like 2 months XD

Yes. You can do a small flare manouver. But you can´t do a full stop and hoover autorrotation flare ;)

Near the ground (100/50 ft agl) you begin the flare manouver to stop descent, reduce speed and gain rotor RMP. You can hold the flare until your speed aproachs to zero, then level the helicopter and make a fast hoover landing using the rotor RPM to stop descent (like a IGE hoover engine fail). This (full stop flare manouver) its used in small or light helicopters. I never flow a S-55 so can´t tell if needs a small run or not.

This is one bumpy ride! Hopefully the final release won't be like that. Outstanding work, guys! It likes to shake a lot, and that "auto stability" thing won't let me bank my helicopter even a little bit...
