Update on December, 20, 2010:

This is new WIP release of EastBalt map, now version 012.
What is new:

Airfields placement (almost) completed for the given region. There are three types of AF included:
i.   default ones, where the information other than just geographic coordinates lacked,
ii.  nowadays ranweys according to GoogleEarth, where the information on the state during
the 1939-45 period was not yet available,
iii. The AF with reliable historical info.

Mymap_c repaired in the region of Pillau and Koenigsberg. Ed_m0X.tga files reworked using
newer map_h file (transforming it from greyscale to RGB, inverting colours and colouring)
and map_T (copying highways, railways, roads and woods).

Instead of Koenigsberg cathedral, stBartholomew made by Stoupa was used as placeholder,
according to author's written permission. Similarly PiterZimny instead of Koenigsberg
castle was applied for now. After anybody help with creating these objects, these would be
replaced.

With authors written permission, ZUTI's friction mod and KevinP's Road mod were included
into the map package for users convenience.

Great addition, its always difficult to recreate dense populated areas.

Thanks!

Oh that's nice. Area of the war that's been woefully under represented on the maps.

I was able to test this map a few weeks ago when in its early WIP phase.  Since then I've learned that many improvements have been made and I imagine this is the newer version with improvements.
The author has selected a perfect area of operations for this map.  You can see that the 2D color map is very nice and well detailed.  The map is well-populated with buildings, several airfields, docks and harbors and cities.  It will be a good addition and mainly because it covers an important area that was not covered in stock IL2 maps.

A map of this area has long been on my list of "Five-most-wanted-maps", and now Uzin has pulled it off! As mentioned above: it is VERY tough to recreate areas with a dense population and subsequently a dense communications network. And it's done here.

Although the map is a WIP if Uzin just manage to finish it (a lot of tedious populating remains), this will surely be THE standard map of this historically very important area, that has a wide range of uses, from 1939, to 1944-45.

Smart move to make it possible for people like me to start campaign building already, in anticipation of the final product, which looks very, very promising! At last we can have campaigns of the invasion of Poland 1939, with the real geography. I for one will certainly try and build one!

Uzin, WELL DONE! And keep it up! This will be SO good.

Thank you for warm words, Poltava.
Please, feel free (you and others) to mention bugs on the map, it will help to improve it.
For instance, at some airfields concrete suffered from bombing (lol) or has grass at the joints . ;)

Running straight SAS modact, I get the following when I try to open the map in FMB:
section [MAP2D] not found in maps/USAV_EastBalt08/load.ini

A check of the map file shows the section IS in the load.ini.
Anyone else have this issue?
Appreciation to those who shed some light.

I had the same error as you and I saw that I had not installed the map at the right place.
I put the directories under : MOD/mapmods/maps and it was ok

instead of yours : "USAV_EastBalt08/load.ini"
there should be : "uzav_EastBalt08/load.ini"
Is this not the reason, too ?
The prefix was created form "uzin" and "aviaskins"
