NEW From A&A Bf109 F4 Tropics On The Eastern Front
« on: August 23, 2010, 01:16:22 PM »

Hi There SAS ;)
Just wanted you all to know that I've just finished a Pack of seven Bf-109F4 Tropics  over at A&A all with Blanks.
These are a little unusual as these aircraft came out of the factories destined for North Africa and were re routed to
The Eastern Front. A number of different units received them. JG3,JG54,JG77 and JG5 where they were repainted at these units.
Researched from photos, profiles by Tom Tullis and using RLM plates from Ken Merrick I've created these skins and hope you enjoy  them.
Just click on the A&A and go to the RDDR F4 Skin section and their all yours.
All the Best,RDDR

Hi OberstDanjeje...
Excuse me,I'm just a little slow, I think you were asking, were these true F4 Tropics? Yes! All but one .That was Peter Bremers F4 which was originally painted in the standard RLM 74/75/76 then overpainted as you can see at the unit level.
The other aircraft that came out of either the Regansburg or Erla factories were Tropics.
I'm sure once it was understood that these aircraft were not headed for Africa or Italy I would imagine the tropical filters and other
items such as the two umbrella attachments on the left fuselage would have also been removed before shipping took place. When these  aircraft arrived at their destinations they were factory painted RLM79 Desert Brown and RLM78 Blue They would also be marked with
The Stammkennzelchen black lettered codes on the fuselage and under the wings. This was applied at the factory with black water base paints and upon arrival to the unit was often quickly removed and the new squadron markings were applied.
In the case of these Tropics, they were repainted and the new insignia and lettering applied after... ;)

Cheers,RDDR

Thanks for your reply, it was exactly what I wanted to know even if I think the tropical stuff were not removed.
At least I remember a picture where the tropical filter was used in an snow covered landscape.
Maybe that was just an inusual case ;)

Again thank you
