I think you don't pay attention to the lights in RL.
Just take a look at bright light from a window inside a room, you will see that the light exceeds the limits of the window.

Perhaps you mismatch what seen by eye with optical lens glitches.

That's exactly like "lens flare": you don't see that in RL.

You think you don't, but you do, just pay attention in bright objects near dark or shadowed ones. ;)
As I said, It can be a bit exagerated in games, but it's what makes our lifes more vivid in a blue sky day.
At night you can see better the same effect when you look at the lights, because of the great contrast between the lights and the dark.

So, I read it correctly that to use this DX Bloom with OGL, you got to use a wrapper for wrapping this mod?

Umm.. like ummm.. riiiiiight, can it get more crazy? :O
What would all that wrapping do with system resources and overall FPS Performance?

Just some thought :)

Edit: just nice to see that someone pulled this little ENB-Series mod out of the pit again! :)

let's hope the bugs can be ironed out, and that we might eventually see this effect running under OpenGL :D

I imagine development for both of these wrapper is based on general usage.  I've seen requests on the GLDirect boards for its 'version 6' to support "Second Life".  And TitaniumGL appears to be written by someone only REALLY interested in selling the wrapper to developers...so only keenly interested in working with groups.  (The price is very low, though, and I'd be pretty happy to chip in if one of the mod teams decided to get behind it)

A working OpenGL -> DirectX wrapper for IL2:1946 would get us a number of other things, too.  Better stereoscopic 3d support, better shadow support (the obvious dithering that smoke shadows have in IL2 is...painful), etc.  The enbseries 'bloom' thing would really be just a nice bonus.

My INI file
« Reply #76 on: December 21, 2011, 07:36:35 AM »

I was curious to try and, luckily enough, I got a configuration file which is quite satisfactory IMO.

It simply combine former [BLOOM] section by Avimimus with his own [COLORCORRECTION] into default DirectX80.ini file; that's to say:

[BLOOM]
BloomPowerDay=6
BloomFadeTime=10000
BloomConstantDay=7
BloomQuality=0
BloomScreenLevelDay=20
BloomCurveDay=10
BloomPowerNight=10
BloomConstantNight=2
BloomCurveNight=6
BloomScreenLevelNight=15
BloomAdaptationScreenLevel=40
BloomAdaptationMultiplier=50
BloomAllowOversaturation=0

[COLORCORRECTION]
DarkeningAmountDay=24
ScreenLevelDay=20
ScreenLevelNight=15
DarkeningAmountNight=29
GammaCurveDay=10
GammaCurveNight=10
ColorSaturationDay=2
ColorSaturationNight=4
UsePaletteTexture=1

Bloom effect is evident like in Satan setting but not so dark like in latter Avimimus.

Cheers!

Any news of these effects also work in OpenGL.

If there was, something would be posted here in the last year since the previous post.

To add this effect to OpenGL, we would need a) the games source code, b) someone who is able to write OpenGL code and c) someone experienced with very old versions of OpenGL. We have none of these and will have great dificulty getting them, so I doubt we will get this bloom effect onto OpenGL.

IMO the effect looks a tad exeggerated :P.
You can archieve something similar by using gapa gamma and customizing your settings.
I fly one sim with HDR lighting (Falcon BMS) and the light effects are slightly better as with IL-2 but the difference is not so dramatic during daytime plus the land has an unrealistic overlight effect.
(Also IL-2 or maybe COD still look best.)

Same problem here... it is all ok (widescreen) with HSFX 6, but adding enbseries I've got this res mismatch...  :(

I've recently add this and work ok except for the part that none of the aircraft mirror working for me. Can someone enlighten me  :). Thanks.

Correction, when using directx mode, mirror stop working, with or without this mod. Maybe it's a conf.ini line somewhere?
