After watching the awesome IL-2 projects you did I started to play a bit with green screened IL-2 planes, pictures I took of landscapes and some 3d characters from Call of Duty: World at War (as I don't have real pilot gear or a real green screen..)
Now I'm the last one to think I know much about this and you probably figured this out yourself but just in case, this is what I found to enhance my fledgling IL-2 green screen project.
Sometimes certain layers (pics/models/videos) don't blend too well together - some have pretty sharp edges, while others have soft edges caused by key light and what have you. By slightly blurring some (like the il-2 plane models) they blend in much better and look way more realistic when in motion. And on top of (and therefore affecting all the layers underneath) I created an adjustment layer, with:
- a slight desaturation
- a photo filter, in this case yellowish, about 40%
- a brightness + contrast adjustment
so far... doh!
... but then adding a little amount of monochrome noise makes the layers blend in even better, especially in motion.
Now the pictures below don't exactly reveal the motion enhancement, but it does show the added depth of field, smoother edges and a more unified coloring of the layers combined.
Like I said, I respect your work very much and this is anything but a "Let me tell you how to do it" comment...
...just a friendly, trying to be constructive "Hey, this works for me.." suggestion.
